works fine unless loaded

I have this connected to my main gaming PC, home server and TiVo. Should be fine if you are not transferring large files often but if you are I would get a metal chasis switch which will help reduce overheating

works great with good transer speeds when using gigabit devices; Can be mounted on a wall or upright in 2 different ways

every few months this switch locks up and stops working; I suspect the device is overheating as it will work again if you switch it off for a few minutes

Nice, inexpensive gigabit switch

Compared to other inexpensive 5-port and 8-port gigabit ethernet switches out there, this one looks great, and has a small, light and energy-efficient switching-mode power supply (a nice touch). It is trivial to set up (it's an unmanaged switch... there's nothing to configure).

This item slows the network

This item is faulty and runs very slow. It doesn't even go 10Mb let alone 1 Gb. No wonder Netgear no longer sells it.

Netgear - GS608 - 8-Port Gigabit Network Switch

Sleek, low profile, low heat, all 8 ports Gigabit Doesn't have adequate weight to even hold itself flat against a desk if the cables are pulling down more than the edge. You can't go wrong with these desktop switches, I bought two for household and I have a *very* information intensive home network.

Good Value

This is my third GS608 switch. I run two of them on my home network. This one is a replacement to the oldest switch. The old switch was running very slow and hot, so I retired it after about 3 years of service. These switches perform fine for my Cat-6 network and you can't beat the price.

Does what it's supposed to do. Reliable and bone-simple to install in your network.

It does what it's supposed to do. I've bought several and none have so much as burped. Styling is attractive enough. I like the Netgear brand and this item does not disappoint.

Great item. I bit small

Great item. I bit small than the one I've used for ten years. Works just as well.

Disappointed

I was real excited when I purchased this modem router, I thought I got a good one. I do like a lot of the features in the software program that came with it. It shows all the things that are connected and you can name them.

Device is a switch, not a router

Contrary to one of the other reviews, this is a switch, not a router. I have had mine for a while (longer then the warranty) and have had at least one port go bad. Others seem to continue to work. I have both 1GB and 10/100 devices connected.

1 port failed
