works fine unless loaded
I have this connected to my main gaming PC, home server and TiVo. Should be fine if you are not transferring large files often but if you are I would get a metal chasis switch which will help reduce overheating
Pros:
- works great with good transer speeds when using gigabit devices
- Can be mounted on a wall or upright in 2 different ways
Cons:
- every few months this switch locks up and stops working
- I suspect the device is overheating as it will work again if you switch it off for a few minutes

Works great
I added the switch to add several A/V pieces into my wired network and it works just as I thought, great. I like the color coding on the lights to show the speed of the connection to the items.

Excellent fast reliable home networking
Used on home networked GE CAT6-P wired MediaNetwork for streaming BD-HD movies and music.

Good build quality
This netgear switch has great build quality. The front has large illuminated number indicators to show activity. It is easy to read even from some distance. It shows green for 1000 MBps connect and orange for 10 Mbps connect.

NETGEAR Mini Switch Ethernet Gigabit 8 ports 10/100/1000 Mb GS608
Didn't have a single problem with it, just plugged bunch of cables and that was it. Forgot about it. After a year different issues stared to happen to my network. I believed it was Virgin.
Pros:
- Small
- same design as my router
Cons:
- failed after 13 months
- not possible to nicely stack up with router

Netgear - GS608 - 8-Port Gigabit Network Switch
Sleek, low profile, low heat, all 8 ports Gigabit Doesn't have adequate weight to even hold itself flat against a desk if the cables are pulling down more than the edge. You can't go wrong with these desktop switches, I bought two for household and I have a *very* information intensive home network.

Mains converter needed & supplied
The only minor issue is that, rather than a native UK power supply unit, it came with a two prong PSU and a converter so it could be used in a UK socket. This works fine, but is rather bulky. That said, the device is working just fine.

This item slows the network
This item is faulty and runs very slow. It doesn't even go 10Mb let alone 1 Gb. No wonder Netgear no longer sells it.

Good Value
This is my third GS608 switch. I run two of them on my home network. This one is a replacement to the oldest switch. The old switch was running very slow and hot, so I retired it after about 3 years of service. These switches perform fine for my Cat-6 network and you can't beat the price.
