Great Purchase Great Product

I rarely write reviews but I'm so impressed by this product I can't restrain. The initial setup was very easy, took 10 minutes. After using the remote for a while I began wishing it could control some of the complicated commands on my AV receiver and I wished I could customize several other things.

Logitech Harmony 650

Logitech's Harmony series of universal remotes seeks to remove the mountain of bundled controllers that can be found in the living room of many a gadget fan. The database of devices compatible with the Harmony 650 is growing all the time, and with more than 5000 manufacturers already on the list,...

Comprehensive device database; Good ergonomics; Colour screen

Only five devices allowed; Setup demands patience

Logitech Harmony 650

The Logitech Harmony 650 is one of the best universal remotes you can buy for less than $100.

Powerful universal remote with great ergonomics; color LCD screen surrounded by five contextual buttons; Web programmable via Windows or Mac PCs; excellent button layout and overall design; supports custom sequences/macros; sub-$100 price tag

Only controls five devices; requires Internet-connected PC to program; adding favorite channel icons is a bit more difficult than it should be; an additional $20 gets you the step-up model rechargeable batteries

Calling it garbage is an insult to garbage.

I made this CNET account just to join the pile-on. This remote is such unabashed garbage that it's clear it only exists to show users the potential of a smart remote and urge them to upgrade to something that costs more. It has had sync issues 9/10 times.

It didn't give me a communicable disease

Everything else

Logitech Harmony 650

Logitech's line of Harmony universal remotes includes more models at more affordable price points than ever before. For 2010, the line-up expands to include the AU$59.95 Harmony 300 and the AU$99.95 Harmony 600 , as well as the AU$149.95 Harmony 650 reviewed here.

Logitech Harmony 650

We review the feature rich, yet budget friendly Logitech Harmony 650 universal remote control. Logitech has cranked out quite a crew of Harmony remotes over the years. All seem to handle well, control a decent amount of devices, and are unbelievably easy to program.

Cheapie McCheap; Easy setup; LCD "wakes up" upon pickup; Comfortable layout

Not rechargeable; No RF features; 5-device limit; Not compatible with Bluetooth-based products

Excellent for basic setups, average for something more complex.

My setup is a little different than most with an HTPC, Wii, AV receiver, TV and Projector. I may be asking a little bit too much out of this remote, but I have tweaked it to a point where it does the basics that I need it to do with out too much fuss...

Easy to setup for novice users who want to have basic control over their home entertainment center; Easy to use, intuitive remote; Lights up when you pick it up (using a very basic "motion" sensor); Definitely consolidates multiple remotes.

- Web-Based programming means that you always need to be connected online when programming the remote; - Unable to have a "dummy" device for something you cannot control on this remote (like setting up your AV Reciever and TV to play a Wii); I suppose you can select a device you don't have.

Not for Low-Tech Users

I bought for my household and I was the only one that could operate remote. I reprogrammed the remote several ways but the family approval rating was NO.

love having just 1 remote

Because Harmony remotes can be programmed to do things based on activity, i.e. watch tv, watch movie, they handle all of the equipment used for that activity utilizing a single button.

Nice Features

Need to be tech savvy
