Do not buy. Serious oil sensor problems

I am on my 3rd body. 1 st body had faulty lcd screen. 2nd and 3rd bodies leak lots of oil onto the sensor ruining every photo shoot. Autofocus also has a problem on the left side. I am a long term nikon user. Very disappointed and frustrated user.

Left Autofocusing issue still exists!!

So I waited for half year for the left autofocusing issue to settle down and finally bought one from Futureshop last week as there're reports that the latest production batch should be free of the left auto focusing issue. Unfortunately, the issue is still there.

Nikon D800 Review

In many methods, the D800 had a challenging act to adhere to in the 12MP D700, which was (and remains) one of the best all-rounders of any DSLR we have ever used. The requirement of some Nikon customers for a greater quality style despite, there was not a whole lot we would have desired to see...

More down sides than up

Disappointed in the images as compared to my expectations, based upon what I'd been reading. I certainly did not do an exhaustive comparison, but to my eye the pictures were no better than my D300 and the green tint made for more work in post processing.

Controls Akin To My D300

Did Not Fit My Hand Well; Green Tint To Screen; Huge Files Slow To Load; White Balance Difficult

Nikon D800

At 36 megapixels the Nikon D800 ($2,999.95 list, body only) is not only the company's highest-resolution camera -it's the highest-resolution camera you can find anywhere without moving up to digital medium format.

Excellent high ISO performance; High-resolution full-frame sensor; Fast focus and performance; Excellent viewfinder

Slower to focus in Live View; Must initiate autofocus manually during video recording

Nikon D800 review

Re-igniting the 'how many pixels do we actually need?' debate, the Nikon D800 comes across as much as a manufacturer's statement of capability as a peerless product in its own right. Yes it is a lot of money; but if you don't need the pixels you don't need to spend the pounds.

Rugged construction; Practical layout; Excellent picture quality

Hefty price tag for a step-up; Quite bulky and heavy

Nikon D800 review

Our craving for more pixels is unrelenting. Answering that demand and making a statement is the 36-megapixel sensor of Nikon's D800 digital SLR (DSLR). Such a resolution – the largest currently offered by a 35mm format DSLR – in theory allows massive poster prints – billboard sized we'd argue.

Tough workhorse-like body construction; highest resolution sensor in a DSLR to date provides incredible detail plus very reasonable future proofing; compatibility with a very wide range of Nikon lenses increases creative flexibility for HD video and stills

Pricey if you don't require all those pixels; or are stepping up from a consumer DSLR; while big and bulky construction means it's not the most convenient option

Nikon D800

The Nikon D800 has impressive specifications but that is just the beginning. Its 36 MP sensor with ISO 50-25600 sensitivity is capable of shooting at 4 FPS and capturing full 1080p HD.

Considerably higher resolution than peers; Very low image noise; Good color-accuracy; Excellent dynamic-range; Very fast autofocus; Quite fast and responsive; Ultra-short black-out; Flexible self-timer and exposure delay; Very sharp LCD; Highly customizable with plenty of controls; Dual memory cards...

Sharpening introduces artifacts quickly; Some under-exposure; Poor AWB indoors; Increased softness at ISO 3200; Strong anti-alias filter; EC button placement not ideal; Asymmetric card slots; Highly inconsistent Live-view; Bizarre Auto ISO; Exposure Delay mode hidden in menu; Highly sensitive to...

Best Image Possible but at a cost

Love the images it produces but the files are so large I had to re-gear. I upped my main hard-drive from 1tb to 2tb and put away all my 4 & 8gb cards and replaced them with 32gb cards. Also I miss the 6.5fps of my D300's -- the 4fps just is so noticible a difference.

Best Digital Image Period; Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus; Good Image Stabilization; High ISO Performance; Large Clear LCD

Massive Files; Only 4 Fps Capture
