I've been using my D800 for a couple of weeks now, and it is just fantastic. Incredibly detailed images, and surprisingly it does VERY well in low light, beating the D700 at high ISO settings. Build quality is excellent.

Brilliant camera!

Absolutely beautiful camera to use. Upgraded from the D700 and didn't think there'd be much difference. Boy, was I wrong! The clarity on this camera is amazing. Large file sizes, but that's not a problem.

The Nikon D800 is one of the few professional DSLR cameras in their line that comes with a full-frame FX sensor. The D800 is more affordable than the other series from Nikon, and it's priced in-line with similar cameras in its class.

This professional DSLR is an affordable full-frame Nikon FX that takes great photos

It only shoots up to four images a second and feels slower than other cameras

Nikon D800

The Nikon D800 is a full-frame 36 Megapixel DSLR with Full HD video capabilities. Announced in February 2012, it arrives three and a half years after the D700, Nikon's first 'affordable' full-frame DSLR.

Unrivalled quality from a DSLR; Incredible detail and low noise, Good ergonomics, build quality and twin card slots, Large viewfinder with 100% coverage and detailed 3:2 screen, Built-in flash which can be used as wireless controller, Built-in interval timer, timelapse facilities and deep...

Excrutiatingly slow buffer flush times even with fastest cards, Modest continuous shooting speed and burst depth, No built-in Wifi or GPS; Both are expensive accessories, Movies and magnified Live View can suffer from moire, No articulated screen

D800

WHILE Nikon's D800 isn't a surprise - a replacement for the company's aging full-frame (FX) D700 was expected - the fact that it features the highest-resolution image sensor of any DSLR at this time certainly caused many eyebrows to lift.

Amazing detail and resolution from the 36-megapixel sensor; camera body feels like it is built tough as a tank; stereo output for audio monitoring during video recording

Top continuous shooting speed is only 4fps (or 5fps in DX crop mode); priced at a premium

Exceptionally detailed images; Rich dynamic range; Excellent handling

Moiré patterns visible in some videos; Slower 4 fps shooting speed; Large image files

Nikon D800 / D800E review by Flyinghigh

Buying this camera is a BIG gamble! It has so many problems that can render it useless. I have been using Nikon's for a very long time and always have been really unhappy until now. I am on my 3rd body - yes 3 bodies and all 3 have been defective.

Good image quality when not leaking oil; easy Nikon interface; good ISO performance

The oil spots! Overall quality control; left side autofocus is useless
