Ultimate Ears Boom

Ultimate Ears, which was acquired by Logitech in 2008, has clearly produced a very popular Boom product series.

The UE Boom is a 360-degree portable speaker, which launched in the winter of 2013 and has been well-received in the New Zealand market. It's easy tounderstand why Kiwis like it due to it's clever design, great sound and portable nature.

The UE Boom doesn't appear very large when one experiences it for the first time: it's essentially a cylinder-shaped tube 60 mm in diametre and in 190 mm height that weighs 0.55 kg. Its centre of gravity is located near the the base, which makes it quite stable and it isn't likely to fall over in case someone accidentally bounces into it. There's a hook at the top so that it can be hung up.

The speaker is wireless and Bluetooth enabled, and can easily be controlled by Android and iOS mobile apps. This means that you can play and share all your songs on your phone during the barbeque or birthday party. The 15 hour battery life and high sound ensure a pleasant audio experience.

The price around $200 is relatively high compared to other portable speakers sold in New Zealand, but Kiwis perceive it as offering high value.

The successor to UE Boom is the Logitech UE Boom 2. Kiwi audiophiles should also consider the UE MegaBoom. The UE Mini Boom and the UE Roll come at a cheaper price tag and retails at around $130.

Logitech UE Mobile Boombox review: temple of boom?

Logitech releases audio products under the UE brand. This tiny 'boombox' falls under the same product line, and we tested it to find out what it has to offer.

Logitech UE Mobile Boombox Review

After a lot of inter office negotiation I was lucky enough to test out Logitech's UE Mobile Boombox. I haven't been known to put together any flash mob dance extravaganzas, so I looked more to a functional method of use.

Review: Logitech UE Mobile Boombox

If you're looking for something that closely matches the $200 Jambox in portability and sound, but costs substantially less, the $100 Logitech UE Mobile Boombox is the device I'd recommend.

Logitech UE Boombox Review

At first glance, the Logitech UE Boombox looks a bit like something Judy Jetson would carry to a beach party on an asteroid. It's all smooth curves and brushed aluminum, evoking the Mac Pro's cheese-grater aesthetic, as well as mid-20th-century design.

Portable and rechargeable; Surprisingly deep bass; Six-hour battery life.

Kinda heavy; Battery is not replaceable, once it eventually dies

Logitech UE Boombox Bluetooth Speaker Review

What can I say?  Logitech UE, you've produce another top notch piece of hardware that sits proudly on top of my portable audio hardware list.  It's not cheap at $250, but you'll be incredibly happy with your purchase and the never look back.

The UE Boom from Logitech boasts an impressively hip advertising campaign and a promise to make music more "social" again. But past all of the buzzwords and pretty packaging, is this cylindrical speaker worth all of the hype? We take a close look… and can't help but be blown away.

Logitech UE Boom Portable Speakers

The UE Boom can connect via, aux, Bluetooth and NFC; NFC connectivity didn't seem to work well for me but over Bluetooth the music quality was sharp and crisp, filling up the room with great sound.

Ultimate Ears UE Boom Review

Logitech's Bluetooth speakers have proven to offer solid performance in small, affordable packages, and the UE Boom (named for the Ultimate Ears brand Logitech acquired) is no different. At $199.99 (direct) this cylindrical speaker is eye-catching, gets pleasantly loud, and can even be paired up with another speaker for a wireless stereo experience. While pricier, it offers better sound and significantly more power than the Logitech UE Mobile Boombox($280.00 at Amazon). As expected for a small portable Bluetooth speaker, though, it doesn't exactly impress on the low end and doesn't beat the more expensive Bose SoundLink II($529.97 at Amazon) as our current Editors' Choice for Bluetooth speakers, despite coming close.  DesignThe UE Boom is about the size of a large beer can, like Foster's or (if you have slightly better taste) Bitberger. It's a 7.2-inch cylinder measuring 2.5 inches in diameter and weighing 1.2 pounds, small enough to tuck into a bag and just wide enough to stand ...

The UE Boom is a surprisingly powerful Bluetooth speaker the size of a beer can, but you need two if you want to take advantage of its coolest feature.

Solid soundscape; Powerful, clear midrange and treble; Supports two speakers for true stereo

Slightly weak bass

Ultimate Ears UE Boom

One of the few areas in audio tech to have grown over the last few years is the Bluetooth speaker. Tykes who used to annoy people by playing tunes on their mobile phones on the bus have apparently grown up into adults who like the idea of a wireless portable speaker to crank tunes out of.

Seriously loud; Attractive design; Solid battery life

Expensive; Socket placement ruins waterproofing
