Ultimate Ears Boom

Ultimate Ears, which was acquired by Logitech in 2008, has clearly produced a very popular Boom product series.

The UE Boom is a 360-degree portable speaker, which launched in the winter of 2013 and has been well-received in the New Zealand market. It's easy tounderstand why Kiwis like it due to it's clever design, great sound and portable nature.

The UE Boom doesn't appear very large when one experiences it for the first time: it's essentially a cylinder-shaped tube 60 mm in diametre and in 190 mm height that weighs 0.55 kg. Its centre of gravity is located near the the base, which makes it quite stable and it isn't likely to fall over in case someone accidentally bounces into it. There's a hook at the top so that it can be hung up.

The speaker is wireless and Bluetooth enabled, and can easily be controlled by Android and iOS mobile apps. This means that you can play and share all your songs on your phone during the barbeque or birthday party. The 15 hour battery life and high sound ensure a pleasant audio experience.

The price around $200 is relatively high compared to other portable speakers sold in New Zealand, but Kiwis perceive it as offering high value.

The successor to UE Boom is the Logitech UE Boom 2. Kiwi audiophiles should also consider the UE MegaBoom. The UE Mini Boom and the UE Roll come at a cheaper price tag and retails at around $130.

The Logitech Ultimate Ears Boom is a handy, super portable wireless speaker. If portability is your top priority, you can't do much better for belching sound out of a small frame. But for the price, you can get a wireless speaker that connects to a multi-room audio system too - if most of your music...

The Logitech Ultimate Ears Boom is a lot smaller than some other wireless speakers we've tested recently: you can easily grip it one hand (it's less than seven centimetres wide); but it still packs enough space inside for a 15 hour battery.

The Logitech UE Boom is impressive, but it's also pricey; We've tested portable Bluetooth speakers with respectable sound for a tenth of the price before; For the same sum, you can also pick up a wireless speaker that's much more versatile, if more bulky and less portable: the Pure Jongo S3, which...

Logitech UE Boom Bluetooth Speaker Review

Portable Bluetooth wireless speakers shouldn't be delicate flowers - they're meant to be handled a bit roughly as you tote them around with you. They also need long-lasting batteries to last through the day (and into the night).

Spreads sound widely; Vocals sound clear; Strong battery life; Rugged build; Great speakerphone quality

Weak bass output

Mixed Emotions

A word about the seller, Omnikeys. I purchased this unit because it was the lowest priced version. I didn't realize at the time that I was ordering from South Korea. When I realized what I had done, I began to fret, worrying about gray market goods and so forth. My fears were unfounded.

Having listened to (and purchased) several brands of high end bluetooth speakers, I can confidently say that the UE Boom is the best of the genre; Construction and attention to detail are rock-solid; The units are aesthetically pleasing and the sound quality is quite satisfactory.

With all its pros; it still feels pretty ridiculous to drop $200 on a bluetooth speaker; let alone $400 to have a stereo pair

So good I bought two.

As portable device speakers go, the UE Boom, really is quite spectacular. If anyone is familiar with the Henry Kloss Tivoli Audio radios and think they are good, well these are just as good.

Love it it for the following reasons: 1.Really loud. 2.Don't feel cheap on your hand, the rubber material makes it feel safe in your hands. 3.Long Battery life. I used it for 2 hours and it only used 15% of battery!

Logitech UE Boom 2 - A new favourite

Logitech subsidary Ultimate Ear's original UE Boom was widely celebrated as one of the best portable Bluetooth speakers you could buy. With the UE Boom 2, Ultimate Ears has iterated with a speaker that's better, but a little pricier.

Great sound quality for form factor; Long Bluetooth range; Light; portable design

Struggles with sub-bass frequencies; Slight distortion at higher volumes

For the past 5 years or so I've been looking all over the market to track down the perfect portable wireless speaker (the holy grail of wireless speakers as i like to call it) with no luck really.
