The Order: 1886
The Order: 1886 is such a great looking game, and it's sad that the gameplay couldn't be just as impressive. The game falls victim to the old cliche "All flash, no substance". The cinematic experience is overshadowed by the boring gameplay leading to a visually stunning game but unimaginative,...

It's good - and it's also bad. For The Order: 1886 , a game that promises so much, that's a painful thing to say. But the evidence is irrefutable. Here's the good: It looks incredible.

PlayStation 4 The Order: 1886 THEORDER1886 review
We throw the gaming industry a lot of punches for over-franchising, but let The Order: 1886 stand as evidence that even an original IP by an up-and-coming development studio can feel just as rote as the latest Ubisoft release.

Bourgeois Boogie
The Order: 1886 is a divisible title, delivering an incredible cinematic feast than fans of linear action titles will love. Those craving a longer-lasting open-world or replayable experience would do well to stay away from The Order: 1886 though.
Pros:
- Stunning visuals
- Interesting premise
- Intense shootouts
Cons:
- Short
- Overly linear
- QTE-fest

Mostly Cinematics !!!
5 minutes of gameplay 20 minutes of cut scenes. This game is not a game, it is an animated movie. Don't get me wrong the visuals are great, but there is hardly any gameplay AT ALL. The controls are merely adequate when you do get to use them.

The Order: 1886
The concept of cinematic videogames has always been an odd one for me. Why would a developer restrict themselves by trying to emulate the silver screen when videogames are capable of so much more?

With all of this in mind, The Order: 1886 is a game that should really be treated as a tech demo that shows off the graphical capabilities of the PS4. It's one of those games that if demoed at an E3 event, would have the gaming industry's juices pumping.

The Order: 1886 Review
If I were reviewing The Order: 1886 as a movie, I would note its slick, gorgeous cinematics and its solid acting. Then I'd tear it down for its formulaic archetypal roles and for being held together by several pieces of stringy plot.
Pros:
- Gorgeous graphics
- Seamless integration between cut scenes and in-game play
- Innovative weapons
Cons:
- Boring shooting gallery-style combat
- Cool weapons not used nearly enough
- Little to no replay value
- Predictable, clichéd story

I didn't completely hate The Order , but I wanted to like it so much more than I did. The premise is amazing, the presentation is stunning, and the gameplay style has proven to give rise to some excellent games in the past. In this case, though, the total is less than the sum of its parts.

The Order: 1886 (PS4)
The Order: 1886 is not your typical action experience, as this new PS4 exclusive does things in its own way, which is simultaneously its greatest strength and its weakness. There are two things the Order most definitely is: very cinematic and convincingly British.
Pros:
- Looks fantastic
- Gripping story
- Some innovative weapons
Cons:
- Too many cutscenes
- Clunky game mechanics
- Constrained exploration
