Set in an alternate history London, The Order: 1886 serves as a visually stunning, mysterious blend of film and game and yet despite its technical prowess does little to galvanize another third-person, cover-based shooter littered with quick-time events (QTEs).

The Order: 1886 review
The Order: 1886 is not only the first big exclusive console release of the year, it's one of the PlayStation 4's biggest yet. Does it continue Ready At Dawn's winning ways? Matt Maguire reaches for his leather and goggles.
Pros:
- Through-the-roof production values create a believable
- sensational world
Cons:
- Overly-directed
- Inconsistent characterisation
- Shallow combat
- Many mechanics are too simple to be enjoyable
- Predictable story
- Short-ish with no replay value

When you're a development studio that comes up with an alternate history, based in one of the most iconic cities in the world, you best make darn sure that you have some great set pieces in place to make the story believable.
Pros:
- A graphical showcase | One or two really awesome weapons
Cons:
- Absolutely no replay value | Boring and generic | Dull characters

The Order: 1886
As with most triple-A entries today, Ready at Dawn's tale of steampunk-tinged Knights of the Round Table offers an amalgam of different gameplay types; for the most part shallow, but at least pleasantly distracting.

"Stunning but boring"
The game itself looks stunning, and is unlike any other game currently on the market. But unfortunately looks aren't everything. The game runs at an aspect ratio of 2.40:1. So it places black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.

The Order: 1886 Review
A decent concept, that has been marketed and presented totally wrong.

The Order: 1886
Alright: May be slightly above average or simply inoffensive. Fans of the genre should enjoy them a bit, but a fair few will be left unfulfilled.

The Order: 1886 (PlayStation 4) Review
Every new system thrives on new IP, and The Order: 1886 is the latest on PlayStation 4, from Ready at Dawn and Sony's Santa Monica Studio. With a unique gothic steampunk style, the world The Order: 1886 crafts looks very promising, but does it live up to the hype

The Order: 1886
The Order: 1886 is such a great looking game, and it's sad that the gameplay couldn't be just as impressive. The game falls victim to the old cliche "All flash, no substance". The cinematic experience is overshadowed by the boring gameplay leading to a visually stunning game but unimaginative,...

With all of this in mind, The Order: 1886 is a game that should really be treated as a tech demo that shows off the graphical capabilities of the PS4. It's one of those games that if demoed at an E3 event, would have the gaming industry's juices pumping.
