Playing through The Order: 1886, I couldn’t stop thinking about Resistance: Fall of Man. That comparison works on more levels than just the aesthetic similarity between Ready at Dawn’s PS4 blockbuster and Insomniac’s PS3 launch title.

The Order 1886 review: Great Expectations
As inevitably as death and taxes, the euphoria among gamers following the arrival of each new generation of consoles gives way, after a while, to a nagging sense of impatience as we await the arrival of fresh, new types of gameplay.
Pros:
- Looks gorgeous
- deeply atmospheric
- fabulous steampunk gadgets
- weapons and general vibe
- pleasing storyline and characterisations
Cons:
- Far too many quick time events
- cutscene heavy
- third-person shooter gameplay lacklustre compared to its peers
- doesn't make the most of its best ideas

One of the most anticipated PlayStation 4 exclusives was revealed at E3 2013 from developer Ready At Dawn. The Order: 1886 has finally arrived, and the gorgeous and atmospheric adventure game is definitely a unique title for the console.

If The Order: 1886 released at launch as it was originally intended, it most likely would have reviewed far differently because at that time, it would have showed us things we've never seen.
Pros:
- Visually stunning with no hiccups in presentation or gameplay input with some of the most beautiful cut-scenes ever shown to date on the new generation of consoles and a decent
- somewhat intriguing
- and perfectly-paced plot
Cons:
- Too many QTEs are shoehorned into spots that make zero sense or are unintuitive
- overall gameplay is not innovative and feels forced in a game focused on cinematic storytelling

It's good - and it's also bad. For The Order: 1886 , a game that promises so much, that's a painful thing to say. But the evidence is irrefutable. Here's the good: It looks incredible.

While not close to being a system-seller that so many expected from a high concept, expensive, first-party production, 'The Order: 1886' still managed to charm me with its atmospheric presentation and expert voice acting.
