Sony UBP-X700

It may not exude the same sensation of premium quality as its older sibling, but the fact that it can deliver a subtler, more lifelike 4K picture on a tighter budget is remarkable.It's likely the older UBP-X800 will get phased out, and once the Sony UBP-X700 gets its Dolby Vision HDR update (our...

Sound could be punchier and grander; Dolby Vision support is 'pending

Great UHD/4K Blu Ray Player

I was waiting for a good performance UHD Blu-Ray Player with Dolby Vision and for a reasonable price. This is a great player, although the price is still a bit steep and Dolby Vision support is only "coming soon" (around Summer 2018). I couldn't wait any longer for a price cut, so I took the plunge.

Sony UBP-X700

4K Blu-ray is growing up. Current players offer better performance and cheaper prices than their predecessors. The latest batch of UHD players are available for between $100 and $200 and offer things the early adopters couldn't, including compatibility with Dolby Vision discs.

The Sony UBP-X700 is a compact powerhouse that offers similar performance and better features than the X800 for a $50 discount; The player includes a host of streaming options, and Dolby Vision support is forthcoming.The time it takes for the player to load Netflix is insanely fast

Only supports streaming 4K HDR from YouTube; Both cheaper competitors and Sony's own X800 offer better DVD performance

Sony UBP-X700 Ultra HD Blu-ray Player Reviewed

Earlier this year, Sony added a new, lower-priced player to its Ultra HD Blu-ray lineup. The UBP-X700 ($199.99) represents a step down, price-wise, from the $249.99 UBP-X800 that I reviewed last year .

Sony UBP-X700

The Sony UBP-X700 is the latest 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player from the company. It retains many of the features found on the Sony UBP-X800 , but does so at a more affordable price point. Thanks to a firmware update, it also boasts a new feature in the form of Dolby Vision support.

Excellent picture performance; Dolby Vision support; SACD disc playback; 4K video streaming services

No HDR10+ support; Noisy in operation; Flimsy build quality

Sony UBP-X700 Ultra HD Blu-ray player review

Design and build don't dazzle here, and connectivity is limited, but the UBP-X700 lets Sony hit a new 4K price point – and appeal to Dolby Vision TV owners at the same time.

Sony UBP-X700 review

We love streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video as much as anyone, but if you’re serious about getting the maximum possible image quality from that brand new 4K TV, you’re still going to need a disc. It may seem like a throwback to last decade, but the fact is, the only way to get the maximum fidelity out of your favorite films and TV shows at present is to watch them on Ultra HD Blu-ray. And for that, there are few players that offer the same level of quality from a footprint as minimal as Sony’s UBP-X700. With fantastic image and audio processing and support for both HDR10 and Dolby Vision HDR formats, this affordable Sony player is a great option for those looking to take their home theater to the next level. For how well it renders the picture and sound of your favorite content, the X700 is a remarkably non-descript device to look at. A simple black box with an angled lower section and a silver Sony logo on the front, the player is designed to blend in among all your...

Compact form factor; HDR 10 and Dolby Vision support; Great audio processing; Easy to use remote;

Feels a little chintzy; Not great for streaming compared to dedicated boxes;

Great Quality With Few Missing Features

Pros: fast and quiet, great video quality, support of dolby atmos, dts-x and dolby vision Cons: few and sometimes buggy apps (E.g. Netflix blanks while loading trailers, YouTube blanks after long usage, sometimes requiring power cycling), does not support dolby atmos in mkv files (only m2ts)...
