Sony UBP-X700

4K Blu-ray is growing up. Current players offer better performance and cheaper prices than their predecessors. The latest batch of UHD players are available for between $100 and $200 and offer things the early adopters couldn't, including compatibility with Dolby Vision discs.

The Sony UBP-X700 is a compact powerhouse that offers similar performance and better features than the X800 for a $50 discount; The player includes a host of streaming options, and Dolby Vision support is forthcoming. The time it takes for the player to load Netflix is insanely fast

Only supports streaming 4K HDR from YouTube; Both cheaper competitors and Sony's own X800 offer better DVD performance

B&H delivers!

Always an enjoyable experience buying our electronics from B&H. Ordered 49 LG TV, Visio Sound Bar, and this Sony X700 Blu-Ray. All 3 arrived in great shape function great. Only disappointment, the Disc Player case was dented in the rear, but doesnt show when pushed under the TV.

easy-to-setup player configuration and update on initial power-up only took about 10 minutes nice compact footprint wi-fi connectivity discs load times fairly quick Dolby Vision support remote also controls tv convenient nav keypad at top of remote rather than bottom

poor dashboard with little to no customization mostly useless menu tiles and very limited selection device has brief timeout when empty tray is open (powers off) occasional streaming lockups (ie; Netflix) cannot return/resume without complete power cycle

Freezes often, loses audio output on Netflix

Regularly freezes requiring someone to unplug the device for a few minutes then plug it back in. After this operation is performed you must retype all of your passwords for the various services. Occasionally you may even have redownload the software updates installed during initial startup.

Sony UBP-X700

The Sony UBP-X700 is the latest 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player from the company. It retains many of the features found on the Sony UBP-X800 , but does so at a more affordable price point. Thanks to a firmware update, it also boasts a new feature in the form of Dolby Vision support.

Excellent picture performance; Dolby Vision support; SACD disc playback; 4K video streaming services

No HDR10+ support; Noisy in operation; Flimsy build quality

Sony UBP-X700

It may not exude the same sensation of premium quality as its older sibling, but the fact that it can deliver a subtler, more lifelike 4K picture on a tighter budget is remarkable. It's likely the older UBP-X800 will get phased out, and once the Sony UBP-X700 gets its Dolby Vision HDR update (our...

Crisp; natural-looking picture; Excellent detail and colours; Great value; Dolby Vision support (pending

Sound could be punchier and grander; Dolby Vision support is 'pending

Bought this player to replace my Samsung 8500 player and wow I didn't think I would notice a difference ,but the picture and sound quality are excellent the build quality is also great.easy to setup and update also the firm ware gives you access to Dolby vision too, highly recommended indeed.

Great Quality With Few Missing Features

Pros: fast and quiet, great video quality, support of dolby atmos, dts-x and dolby vision Cons: few and sometimes buggy apps (E.g. Netflix blanks while loading trailers, YouTube blanks after long usage, sometimes requiring power cycling), does not support dolby atmos in mkv files (only m2ts)...

Have only watched two 4K discs and they are as you would expect but for me your standard Blu-rays really look a treat, have watched the standard Blu-rays of Star Wars (A New Hope), Raiders of the Lost Ark, Back to the Future Parts 1 and 3, the first two Hunger Games movies and all of the Jason...
