Sony PlayStation VR
PlayStation VR is developed specifically for the PlayStation platform with its popular and established user base. Head and motion sensors precicely track the gamer's movement. The quality of Playstation VR can't match that Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, but it's also priced lower. It was announced in March 2016.
A newer model Sony Playstation VR2 was released in February 2022.

Works so much better than I expected
This is hands down one of the best purchases I've made for my PS4. It is a bit pricey especially when you factor in the costs of the camera and move controllers but if you're on the fence about purchasing this then I say do it.
Sony PlayStation VR review
There's a lot riding on PlayStation VR as the mainstream champion of virtual reality. Though it arrived half a year later than the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive , the fact there were already almost 50 million PS4 consoles in people's living room (and now just over that number) meant it had a distinct...- Close to high-end
- affordable
- Some awesome VR games
- Range of controller options
- Multiplayer and social features
- Occasional motion sickness, Tracking can be flakey, Pay for Camera + Move controllers, Wires
- So many wires
PlayStation VR
Sony has joined virtual reality gaming with PlayStation VR. The headset represents the cheapest of the "big three" on the market right now, and is the only option for console gamers interested in the technology as things stand.- Amazing games already available
- Simple setup
- Movies look great in the headset
- Comfortable to wear even with glasses
- Better value than Oculus and Vive
- Processor unit needs to be unplugged to power down
- PS4 console desperately needs another USB port to charge all the controllers
- PlayStation Camera still fiddly
Excellent piece of kit
Great piece of kit that can change gaming forever. If you're new to VR you will never have experienced anything like it, and it's one of those things you should definitely experience at least once. The only issue is that many will experience motion sickness.
Best VR on the market today! Awesome to play!
- Easy set up and awesome games and graphics
- Still some kinks and a bit pricey
Goondu review: PlayStation VR
By now, you've probably heard all the hype about virtual reality (VR). So what is it really, except a manipulation of your senses?
Sony Interactive Entertainment's contribution to the virtual reality race is one that has brought much derision. It's not nearly as complex or as impressive as the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift; yet, it shows that Sony is very aware of what people want from this sort of thing.
PlayStation VR: The AC review\n
Sony has created something that is somehow greater than the sum of its parts, and in some cases will improve over time.- The most comfortable headset yet
- Comparably inexpensive
- Healthy software ecosystem
- Mediocre controllers
- 180-degree rotation isn't great
- Game setup is occasionally obnoxious
PlayStation VR Review
Furthermore, if you already own a PS4, the PlayStation VR is the cheapest way to get onto the virtual reality bandwagon, and even if you don't the total cost of ownership is less than other options coupled with a powerful enough gaming PC. You just buy the headset and the camera and you're in.
Virtual Reality (VR) is never out of the headlines for long, and it is often a subject viewed with scepticism by the general public. The options have been fairly limited for the most part – headsets such as the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift are expensive and require a high-spec PC making them unaffordable...
