Over the past couple of weeks I have been playing with the Sennheiser HD280 Pro Headphones. These are some fairly heavy duty professional monitor headphones offering reasonable attenuation of background noise and a very visually uninspiring brick-outhouse build quality that boasts user-serviceable...

Sennheiser knows the difference between good and great headphones.

Overall, these headphones have been outstanding and I am very happy with them. They have gotten many hours of use over the last 2 years, and they have been completely reliable with no degradation in sound quality or comfort.

It is rare when, as a studio owner, a new headphone comes along that provides enough value and quality to make you consider ditching your current collection. Sennheiser's new HD 280 Professional headphone ($199) may do just that..

Still, though, if you'd like some packable, wearable, isolating, good-sounding 'phones for the office, LAN party, crèche, server room or long train trip, you could do a lot worse than check the HD 280 Pro out.

These are very well-made and most comfortable headphones I have ever worn and can wear them for hours while twiddling and tweaking parameters in wee hours of night without neighbors thinking aliens have landed.

Accurate, clean audio performance across the full frequency range; Comfortable, secure fit for long listening sessions; Durable.

Cable is not detachable; More appropriate for professional/studio use than personal listening

Human hearing range is about 20hz to 20Khz. The fact that it's range goes down to 8 and up to 25 will not be noticeable to most. Clarity of audio quality is limited by both the output source and the audio signal.

They are very comfortable for headphones, not to mention they have very nice sound quality; The coiled cord can prevent that loud noise that happens when something bumps the cord, as well as preventing it form getting tangled.

Much higher price than standard headphones; A bit bulky, wouldn't rely be able to take them out anywhere; (They're a bit expensive to be taking outside anyway) When compared to a 5 dollar set of headphones playing a compressed recording, the difference is not very notable compared to the price...
