Samsung Galaxy A51 Black Smartphone SM-A515FZKWVNZ review

The Samsung Galaxy A51 is an affordable way to get a good-looking Galaxy phone, but it makes Android feel a little too slow for us to wholeheartedly recommend it.
Pros:
  • Bold OLED screen
  • Has a headphone jack
  • It’s a Samsung Galaxy
  • without an S20 price
Cons:
  • Feels slower than most at this level
  • Poor fingerprint scanner
  • Unusually prominent punch-hole camera

Samsung's $400 Galaxy A51 Is Sadly Average and Overpriced

Sluggish performance and average cameras mire an otherwise fine Android phone.
Pros:
  • Decent battery life. Cameras snap decent photos in good lighting. There's a headphone jack! It looks modern, has NFC for contactless payments, and includes a Micro SD card slot for extra storage. Plastic back design is more durable. Three years of Android updates.
Cons:
  • Performance can drag. The cameras lag behind peers. Overpriced.

Samsung Galaxy A51 Review

At $400, Samsung's Galaxy A51 has a gorgeous display, good cameras, and a battery that will easily get you through the day, but it can use a boost in the processor department. 2020 might just go down in history as the year of the midrange smartphone. Apple's new $399 iPhone SE is our highest-rated non-flagship model in some time, and we're expecting about a dozen or so more similarly priced offerings to hit US carriers this year. First up is the $399.99 Samsung Galaxy A51. It offers plenty of value for its price in the form of a handsome design, long battery life, good camera quality, and a gorgeous display. But it's no competitor to the iPhone SE in the power department.Design, Display, and Durability Put simply, the Galaxy A51 looks good. It measures 6.24 by 2.90 by 0.31 inches (HWD) and comes in at 6.06 ounces. It’s light and just narrow enough to hold and use in one hand without any big issues. In the US it’s available in black with an attractive prismatic finish. In other parts of the world there are blue and white options available as well. The front of phone is dominated by a near bezel-less 6.5-inch AMOLED display with a 20:9 aspect ratio and a...
Pros:
  • Excellent display
  • Solid cameras
  • Good battery life
Cons:
  • Underwhelming performance
  • Not waterproof
  • Fingerprint sensor doesn’t work well

Samsung Galaxy A51 Black Smartphone SM-A515FZKWVNZ review

Samsung’s Galaxy A51 packs a great screen, a handful of cameras, and a big battery -- what more could you ask from a mid-range smartphone? Well, more consistent performance, for one.
Pros:
  • Excellent design
  • Big and beautiful AMOLED screen
  • Flexible multi-camera system
Cons:
  • Laggy performance
  • Camera quality is largely unremarkable
  • Mediocre battery life

Galaxy A51 review: Samsung beats the iPhone SE in these important ways

It's the perfect iPhone SE rival in every way but one. How good can a $400 phone really be? When the device in question is the Samsung Galaxy A51, the answer is simple: very good. As the first real representative of the Galaxy A family in the US, the A51 is a convincing effort that proves Samsung can make a good midprice phone that's worth buying. In fact, Samsung's budget phone (£329 in the UK and AU$599 in Australia) even bests the iPhone SE (which starts at $399, £419 and AU$749), in some specific, and significant, ways. When it comes to screen size and clarity, phone features, camera quality and performance, the Galaxy A51 delivers where it counts, with one exception.
Pros:
  • 6.5-inch screen is detailed and bright
  • Wide-angle camera option
  • Headphone jack
Cons:
  • Processor speed drags
  • No water resistance

Samsung Galaxy A51 Black Smartphone SM-A515FZKWVNZ review

A great design and screen are the big sells of this mid-ranger, which performs generally well but can struggle a little when it comes to gaming tasks. Otherwise the clean software experience makes for a generally polished and affordable choice.
Pros:
  • Great display
  • High quality looks
  • Good main camera performance in most conditions
  • Solid battery life
  • Under display fingerprint scanner
Cons:
  • Lacks overall power
  • Some lag in usage
  • Single speaker limited
  • Easy to block Bluetooth antenna and cause cut-out
  • Quad cameras oversell themselves a little
