Nokia 1616

Nokia expects budget handsets to conquer a good half of the world phone market and tries not to lose its leadership in this niche. When releasing consistently low cost models, the company introduces new indexes and presents well known solutions a little updated and in slightly modified casings.

An adequate basic phone

With the market saturated with iPhone wannabes, its comforting to note that major mobile manufacturers like Nokia have not forgotten an important demographic: the basic phone segment. There is still a substantial demand for these simple no-nonsense handsets.
Pros:
  • 1) Basic but sleek design
  • 2) Minimalist look and feel for those who want it
  • 3) FM radio compatible with 3.5" headphones
  • 4) FM sound on loudspeaker mode is excellent
  • 5) Adequate battery life
  • 6) Flashlight (torch)
Cons:
  • 1) Some menus are very counter intuitive
  • 2) Alerts aren't loud enough
  • 3) Voice calls sound tinny and plasticky
  • 4) Saves a copy of your sent SMS (thinks its a Sony Ericsson)

Nokia 1616 review Review

With so many cheap phones on the market, it's hard to decide which offers the best deal. All of the phones we've reviewed recently have been seriously lacking in features, and the Nokia 1616 does nothing to buck this unwelcome trend.
Pros:
  • FM radio with headphones
  • Handy flashlight
  • Decent battery life
Cons:
  • Cheap design
  • Lack of camera and 3G
  • No data connectivity or Internet access

Nokia 1616

It is a shi@ty phone (sorry for my French) but I can only use it for texting. I hear people well but no one can ever hear me, so I am so sick of my phone. People even stopped calling me a long time ago because phone conversations are a disaster.
Pros:
  • You can text
Cons:
  • Call quality is terrible

Nokia 1616

How much phone do you think you should get for AU$29? This is the question that has plagued us since we began our review of the Nokia 1616. For being the cheapest brand-name phone we know of in Australia, the Nokia 1616 deserves some kudos, but does this mean it's worth your money?
Pros:
  • Solid old-school designFM radio and flashlightGood battery life
Cons:
  • No camera No web browserKeypad will be tricky for those with enormous fingers

Nokia 1616

To answer the question posed in the opening paragraph, the amount of mobile phone you get for AU$29 isn't a great deal, but it does perform the basics admirably. There are a few neat bonuses beneath the basics, like the torch and some games, but we must admit to being a little surprised not to find...
Pros:
  • Solid old-school design
  • FM radio and flashlight
  • Good battery life
Cons:
  • No camera
  • No web browser
  • Keypad will be tricky for those with enormous fingers

POOR

I have this phone for quite a while now, I have to say, it's not a good one at all. Typing is a bit hard, the phone looks ugly, the build is poor, the screen brightness cannot be adjusted, doesn't display date in the homescreen, plasticky.

I forgot to write: 1) Some people wrote that the call quality is bad. Not at all! When I talk with other people on that phone, i hear them well and they hear me well too. 2) "Voice leakage from the back side" - true, but not so bad.
