At MadeByGoogle 2019 event, Google showcased its new Pixel 4 and 4XL smartphones . These smartphones seriously have some amazing features. There are also some features, which are downright disappointing. Because of such quirks, Pixel 4 devices are not for everyone. Let me explain why.

We're struggling to summarise our thoughts on the Pixel 4 and 4 XL. On one hand, they're brilliant smartphones, but on the other, we have so many gripes; the fingerprint sensor is gone, Motion Sense is gimmicky and battery life remains middling at best.

Cameras are excellent, playful design, 90Hz screen is great, slick performance and Android 10 software.

Battery live is middling at best, no fingerprint sensor, Motion Sense is gimmicky at present, the top bezel.

With the big uplift in excellent camera phones at varying prices this year, it's no longer good enough for Google to simply have an "okay" phone with an "amazing" camera. And Google knows it. With the Pixel 4 XL, Google takes many more risks.

Disappointing battery life; Lack of ultra-wide camera is a shame; Motion Sense features are currently limited; Storage options only up to 128GB

The Google Pixel 4 introduces new features and a stellar camera but it struggles in other areas and dilutes a lot of the charm that previous models had.

If you absolutely need to have the newest Android features and want to be on the Pixel's bleeding edge, by all means go buy a Pixel 4 XL.

Cool new features advance Android into a new era; The camera is still great; even if competitors have caught up

Flaws and shortcomings undermine new features; Battery life is just OK; RAM; storage; and design underwhelm for a premium phone

Once again it's the camera that sings in the Pixel 4 XL. It's a pleasure to use and now paired up with a great display, it's a really compelling experience when it comes to capturing photos and video on your phone.
