Not rugged, not waterproof. Cheap and fragile.

Bought to carry large amounts of data around from the lab to and from work. Very disappointed. The cable connection is really poor - it's? super loose and will undoubtedly be the first thing to fail - not rugged at all.

"Fantastic Hard Drive"

ADATA DashDrive Durable HD710 (1TB)

For the same price as a vanilla hard drive like the Toshiba Canvio Slim II (1TB) ($99.99) or the Seagate Backup Plus ($89.99), you can get the ruggedized DashDrive Durable HD710 which will take a few more knocks and abrupt movements if you regularly pick up your laptop in a rush while the drive is...
Pros:
  • Rubberized case
  • Water resistant
  • Channel for storing cable
  • Good file copy speed
Cons:
  • Cable channel and protective door are a bit fussy
  • Fake carbon fiber is never a good idea
  • Cable wrapped around chassis has potential to rub and fray
  • Cable connection needs a guide for a tight connection

ADATA HD 710 500GB USB 3.0 HDD Review

For a USB 3.0 drive, it could have been faster not just in larger file size. But in its defense: This is the only drive that I've observed so that has a very good build and rugged quality.
