Wasteland 2: Director's Cut review

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut is the ultimate, superior version of an already awesome role-playing game that console owners can experience for the first time. If you're itching for an old-school CRPG with tons of branching dialogue and quest choices, turn-based tactical combat and a ton of stats and...

+ Tactical turn-based combat; + Perks and quirks; + Branching dialogue and questlines

- Character models, portraits lacking, - On-screen text tiny, - A.I; pathfinding issues

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut

Proof that big thinking PC-based RPGs can totally work on pads, and how not to implement the weighty interfaces that come alongside them - but trudge through this and there's much to love.

The post-apocalypse is a cruel mistress

Everything old is new again in gaming, with an unprecedented influx of retro-flavored titles popping up via Kickstarter and otherwise. However, this trend isn't surprising when it's realized that many of today's players and devs are well into their 30's and 40's with gaming kids of their own.

The satisfaction of wiping out a whole pack of raiders via tactical genius

I used to stick to action RPGs, but now I'm converted.

I've never been a great fan of the tactical RPG genre, I bought into the XCOM franchise at Enemy Unknown and it really put me off because it just wasn't my playstyle. However, Wasteland 2's combination of Fallout-esque Lore and an atmosphere that is more akin to Krater than it is XCOM has finally...

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut Review

Teenage wasteland.

Absolutely massive; reactionary story; Deep character customisation; Excellent turn-based combat

Sharp difficulty spikes; Map isn't very helpful; Crams a lot onto the screen

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut PS4 Review: Old school RPG radiates class

Imperfections aside, Wasteland 2 is a compelling, bleak and darkly hilarious post-apocalyptic RPG that adds something a little different for the PS4's roster.

(PlayStation 4 Review) Wasteland 2: The Director's Cut

Despite its status as one of the more notable Kickstarter successes, Wasteland 2 is a title that, by all rights, should not exist. Though hailed as one of the great classics of the role-playing pantheon, the original post-apocalyptic Wasteland never saw a proper sequel since its 1988 release, as...

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut review – Fallout?Zero

An old school computer role-playing game is a rare sight on consoles, but this unofficial predecessor to Fallout is more than just a nostalgia-fuelled curio.

Some great writing, that brings the dark humour back to Fallout; The breadth of freedom and harsh decision-making ensures every choice is an important one; Console controls work pretty well

The reliance on virtual dice rolls, both within and without combat, often feels unfair; An unremarkable soundtrack and unreadably small screen text

Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut Review

With so much hype surrounding the upcoming release of Fallout 4 , many fans don't know that the series spawned from old-school, isometric, turn-based RPGs like Wasteland . These types of games focused more on gameplay than visuals and audio, and they didn't coddle players by letting them earn every...

Heavy customization; Offers a true challenge; Strategic combat; Full of hard choices; Great voice acting

Mediocre visuals; Starts off slow; Tags

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut Review – Once More Into the Wasteland…Again

At this point Wasteland 2 is more or less a known quantity. It's one of the pillars of the Kickstarter generation of nostalgia-driven pseudo-remakes. Wasteland 2 is basically an updated version of the original Wasteland, a top-down RPG that inspired the subsequent and quite similar Fallout series.

Improved visuals; Voice acting; New character traits; New customization options

Core gameplay unchanged; Previous owners may not want
