Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception Review

Years from now, when I am old and decrepit, talking about how in my day we used to take "buses" to school, not the fancy jetpacks that all the kids are hot on, I will fondly look back on the Uncharted series as one of the quintessential franchises of this generation of consoles, and some of the best...

The gameplay and story are perfectly merged; Combat is improved; Amazing set pieces

Not as revolutionary as the previous game

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception Review

Uncharted 3 sets the bar for adventure games, it's an epic journey that you'll want to relive over and over again.

Brilliant characters and storyline; Breathtaking set-pieces and scripted sequences; High quality production makes you feel you're the star of your own movie

Some of the boring logic-based puzzles; Some of the strange A.I.

First On TechTree: Review â€" UNCHARTED 3: Drake's Deception (PS3)

Most of the levels pass in a blur of chases over rooftops, on horseback, jumping in and out of cars, and one particular level where you're free-falling off a cargo plane - a la No One Lives Forever . Even the levels that look seemingly mundane such as the cruise ship, are dramatically turned around.

Superlative cinematic experience; Phenomenal character animation; Captures the essence of the adventure genre; Excellent art direction; Amazing texture work; Staggering attention to detail; Scalable puzzles; No two levels look the same; Fun combat

Weapons lack balance; A few combat sequences are frustrating; Hand-to-hand combat gets repetitive

Review: Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

Who would have thought back in 2007 the Uncharted franchise would turn into the monster it is today. At the time many thought it was a Tomb Raider clone, featuring a male lead character.

Elegant fighting style; Stunning cut scenes; Excellent level design; Dramatic story

Why are all the enemies all dressed the same

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception Review

The Uncharted series is one of the best selling franchises that ever appeared on the PlayStation 3, so you can imagine that expectations ahead of Uncharted 3's release, which happened this week, were extremely high.

+Polished gameplay; +Great story; +Impressive multiplayer

-Shooting takes some getting used to; -On-rails sections aren't that great

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

There's an action sequence in the first Uncharted game where everything suddenly clicks into place, and for a fleeting moment it feels like you're starring in a Hollywood movie. It may only last about half a minute, but it has come to define the PS3-exclusive series as it stands today.

High production values; spectacular action; technically impressive

Simplistic; contrived; scripted

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception Review (PS3)

That which is not broken needs little to fix it, but a tiny bit more polish might have been nice Oh Naughty Dog. You had all the pieces to make Uncharted the greatest gaming trilogy ever, and just fumbled it ever-so-slightly at the final hurdle.

One of the best examples of storytelling to date; good platforming and puzzling; epic level design with truly breathtaking vistas; truly brilliant voice acting and character interaction; answers many questions while throwing up a few new ones; Multiplayer and co-op are great fun

Combat is still a bit flat; enemy types have little variance; final third is a straight rip of Uncharted 2

Uncharted 3 Drake's Deception review

Naughty Dog has just made the best Uncharted game we've seen. Drake's Deception is a stunning technical marvel that has surely pushed the PS3 to breaking point. But it would be sound and fury signifying nothing if it wasn't for the script, characters, plot and pacing that make this one of the best...

Sublime game engine; Updated gameplay; Plot and characters

Multiplayer won't last
