Synology DS216se Review

The Synology DiskStation DS216se is Synology's latest affordable 2-bay NAS aimed at small home office and home users. The DS216se is ideal for users looking for a budget-friendly method of setting up a private cloud, a full-featured server, or a media server.

Low price; DSM; Up to 16TB of capacity in such a small form factor

No hot swap drives; No USB 3.0 ports; No iSCSI support

I owned a DLINK DNS325 NAS it was not user friendly and slow with limited capabilities. The DS216SE is much faster and with much more capabilities. The cloud backup is so useful in making duplicate copies of directories from MAC to Nas once setup forget about it.

Great NAS and much more; Easy setup and great apps

Delivery was longer than expected especially after paying for expedited post; NCIX took 2 days prior shipping

Synology DiskStation DS216se 2-Bay NAS Server, CPU Marvell Armada 370 800MHz, DDR3 256MB, 1x GbE, 2x USB2.0, 2 Years Warranty

Seems to be very good for the money. Seriously faster than my old D-Link, and always available, which the D-Link struggled with. Great range of feature add-ons as well. Recommended.

Synology DS216se 2-Bay Entry-Level and Cloud NAS Review

Synology's DS216se doesn't blow anyone away with its specifications, but we still saw a 2-bay NAS that performed very well in our benchmarks. Naturally the hardware has its limits and you shouldn't be running the most CPU intensive apps on it.

Price; Good Performance for an entry model; Award Winning DSM Operating System; Low power consumption

Slow speeds for encrypted folders; Only USB 2.0 ports and no USB 3.0

Good product, easy to use

I have used a few NAS boxes in the past, and found them fairly unfriendly and unforgiving in use. This is much easier to use, and much more flexible as well, with a wide range of options and a goon control center web app.

Today we will be delving deep into the Network Accessible Storage (NAS) department to take a look at the latest product on the market by Synology, the DiskStation (DS)216se, a crisp and very compact device allowing storage accessibility over a Local Area Network (LAN).

Avoid Avoid Avoid

This is the 4th NAS I have owned, and by far the worst. Setup #1 attempt: Software found the device on my home network, got to the last step of installation (setting up it's apps), and sat there for 8 hours (I went to bed after an hour, still hourglass when I woke up).

Looks nice; Has a power button

Everything else
