DO NOT ENTRUST YOUR DATA TO THIS!
DO NOT ENTRUST YOUR DATA TO THIS! Even with FULL redundancy (RAID !) I lost 1.2 TERABYTES of data because of the terrible system software of the Synology nebbishes, I would advise anyone with these systems to NEVER UPGRADE because at least the release shipped with the hardware has presumably been...
Working well!
Got this as a replacement for NAS device that was showing its age and not big enough. I have put a pair of 4TB WD Red drives in it and it is working well. It was very easy to set up and on my 1GB LAN I get good transfer speeds. The software is good as well.
Great little box
So I got this close to a year ago, and am finally getting around to a review. The box ran great, it filled a ton of roles when I first got it, but it did them all slowly. I was able to put Plex on the box, Sabnzbd, a web server, etc. Everything worked, just at 1/3 the speed of my current network.- Easy to setup Good amount of applications available Can fill many roles
- Its not fast on its own
A two-bay network storage device with excellent features and performance
Synology's DiskStation DS212j is a two-bay network attached storage (NAS) device that's aimed at the home and small office markets. It doesn't ship with any hard drives, so you'll have to source one or two of your own 3.5in SATA disks before you can get started.- Performance

- Was reliable
- Hardware felt flimsy
- Can take a while to learn all the features
A sure choice for sharing and backing up files, photos, music and videos
Take a look on your PC and see how many photos, home videos and other recordings you have. Many of these I imagine are the only copies you have. Now, although rare, the hard drive these files are stored on can fail and eventually will. You have now lost all of these memories.
Best Network Attached Storage device on the market

Synology Diskstation DS212j review
Network hard disks, also called network-attached storage (Nas) devices, allow documents, music and video files to be shared between PCs on a home network. The Synology DS212j is a Nas enclosure for which you will need to buy up to two Sata hard disks giving it a maximum capacity of 6TB (with 3TB...
Synology DS212j review
Its most home-friendly unit is typical of the company's output: it looks a bit utilitarian, but allows easy access to the twin-drive bay for adding SATA hard disks, is a doddle to set up, and serves up your content fuss-free.- Does away with USB sticks
- Streams data throughout your home
- Not what you would call stylish
Today we are testing the Synology DS212j, an entry level NAS that comes at an attractive price of $199. Even at that price, the NAS is equipped with a huge list of features and offers good power savings potential since it needs only 17.6W in operation.

Synology Disk Station DS212j review
The times of noisy, power hungry, hard to manage Network-Attached Storage devices is behind us. And for home users, Synology might have just the right stuff.
