I own 2 4 bay Synolgy Diskstations. I have had nothing but problems with their apps. Documentation is sparse. Support can't seem to help unless you give them access to you system. I'm not comfortable giving strangers access to my computers and network. Do your own boycott of this Chinese company.

Synology ROCKS!

Needed to expand my storage so upgraded from a DS214 to the 418. Process was very smooth and painless (but did take a while as I was adding a lot more storage in their Raid config).

I really like the Synology software, I'm running my own VPN server so that I can access my network from outside when staying away from home, I use download station, I have IP cameras with Surveillance Station, I have installed various other packages too and very happy.

Last year we had an opportunity to review Synology's DiskStation DS416j, a Network Attached Storage device. We liked every aspect of this device and based on the benchmarks and in depth discoveries gave a highest rating we could. This year Synology is releasing a newer model of ‘J' series, DS418j.

Synology DiskStation DS916+ 4-Bay NAS Server, Quad Core Pentium N3710 1.6GHz, 8GB RAM, USB3.0 x3, eSATA x1, GbE x2 3 Years Warranty

This is much more than just a NAS and easy to setup.

If you're in the market for an entry-level 4-bay NAS, Synology's DS418j is the latest addition to our NAS charts. The DS418j appears to be a replacement for the DS416j, which I reviewed earlier this year along with the DS416.

Synology DS418j review

Synology's NAS boxes often get an upgraded on a two-year cycle. And, while in that time the outside changed very little, the inside of four-bay ‘j Series' NAS has been entirely overhauled.

It was easy to set up

I just started to use the DS916+. It was easy to set up. The product is very flexible and provides many options. I gave it four stars and not five because there is a lot to learn and significant configuration options that take time. My current configuration is two disks (4TB each) as raid 1.
