Synology DS1019+ Gigabit NAS Review

The Synology DS1019+ NAS unit delivers on pretty much any front. You could argue that it is a little bit more of the same, as this is a DS918+ with 1 slot extra and 8 GB of internal memory. The rest is the same.

Synology DiskStation DS1019+ Review

The newest addition to Synology's Plus series of DiskStation network storage devices, the DS1019+ ($649.99) is a five-bay NAS designed for 4K video streaming, file sharing, and small-office data backups. You'll have to buy and install your own drives with this model, but its fast performance, versatility, and rich feature set earn it our Editors' Choice for multi-bay NAS devices. Tons of Storage At 6.5 by 9.0 by 8.7 inches (HWD), the DS1019+ is a bit smaller than the DS1517+ (6.5 by 9.8 by 9.5 inches) that we reviewed back in 2017. The black enclosure has five front-loading drive bays that will accommodate 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA drives. You can hot-swap the drives, and the trays are tool-less and can be locked in place to prevent accidental or unauthori...

Great Plex Server

I purchased my DS1019+ in hopes it would be a good Plex server and storage. I have not been disappointed. The device streams nicely to multiple devices on the local network and with transcoding when accessed remotely.

Along with a DX517 expansion unit, the NAS installed without issue. It will truly get a "burn-in" as now using the Migration Assistant to bring over 38TB from a vintage Synology DS1512+, which has, along with two expansion units, approximately six years of trouble-free operation, albeit was not on...

Synology DS1019+

In the market for a turnkey NAS solution Whether you're a home user seeking a central store for family photos, or a business wanting to run intensive applications, Synology is a brand that tends to come highly recommended.

Excellent DSM operating system; Dual M.2 slots for easy SSD caching; Media transcoding with third-party apps; Simple expansion via optional DX517; Three-year warranty

Lacks PCIe expansion; Still only USB Type-A; Not the quietest
