Sony Xperia XZs review: Minor flagship upgrade, but a long way to go
Sony's smartphone division is still alive and this year it launched two new flagships at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The Xperia XZ Premium is another attempt at a 4K display smartphone, while the Xperia XZs is a bumped up version of the Xperia XZ which was launched late last year.

Sony Xperia XZs Review
The Sony Xperia XZs makes few significant hardware improvements over the original to warrant its high price. The Sony Xperia XZs is a marginal update to last year's Xperia XZ. The two unlocked phones share the same design and nearly identical hardware, with the only differences coming in the form of battery and camera improvements. For $699.99, that's not quite enough. You can spend just a little more on the Samsung Galaxy S8 and get a nicer design, faster performance, and a sharper display. There's also no shortage of more affordable alternatives, like the ZTE Axon 7 and OnePlus 5, that provide a better combination of price and performance. Design, Features, and Display The Sony Xperia XZs ($229.99 at Amazon) and XZ are nearly identical in appearance, sharing the same dated design with a large rectangular bezel and rounded sides. The phone has a polished metal body available in black, blue, and silver. The XZs measures 5.7 by 2.8 by 0.3 inches (HWD), the same as the XZ (though 0.1-ounce lighter, at 5.6 ounces). Compared with tall and narrow phones with borderless displays like the Gala...
Pros:
- Solid performance
- Good camera
- High-resolution audio and dual stereo speakers
- Waterproof
- Current Android software
Cons:
- Expensive
- Relatively low-resolution display
- Fingerprint sensor not activated in US
- Bulky design

Slow (e)motion
Slap a new camera on the Xperia XZ, et voila - you have yourself a brand-new flagship. Is Sony taking advantage of a smartphone-induced decrease in human attention span? Or just doing what everyone else does?

On the surface, the Sony Xperia XZs looks just like its predecessor, the Sony Xperia XZ . There is basically only one – and very interesting – change: the Motion Eye camera on the Xperia XZs, which allows video recording at a whopping 960 frames per second.
