Review of the Sony SRS-XB31 Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker

When you're choosing speakers, you generally want to go as large as possible. Bigger speaker designs are capable of housing larger drivers, and more of them. One consequence of that is you often can experience fairly steady improvements in sound quality as the physical size of speakers are...

Booming great speaker

I recently decided to get myself a new Bluetooth speaker, but my biggest problem was which make and how much to spend. After watching and reading reviews about the many choices out there, I decided to go for a fully portable party speaker.

Great speaker with excellent connectivity

Speaker is so easy to use and connecting to my phone was simple. It alsio has an Aux lead input so using older devices without bluetooth can be used through the speaker. Sound quality is great as well and it is light enough to make it easy to carry around.

This is a speaker with a difference. Yes you get exceptional sound but this provides some eye candy at the same time. The Sony SRS-XB31 ($229) is the medium size speaker in the Extra Bass family sitting between the XB21 (149) and the XB41 ($269).

Puts in a light show; Sleek design; Excellent audio; Lots of control within the app; Waterproof

Sound cuts out occasionally; but not often

Where more-dedicated portable speaker brands are going smarter, Sony's latest effort in the space opts to go bassier - to mostly-positive results. There's something appealing to that back-to-basics approach here - and the lower price-tag doesn't hurt either.

Solid bass; Good price

Minimal smarts; Clunky app

Loved the lights

For a fairly inexpensive Bluetooth speaker it had a surprisingly good clear and powerful sound which I could play around with in the app which goes with it. I loved the light effects it had which I could also play around with and I enjoyed sitting in my darkened living room listening to music and...
