Sony has unveiled two new versions of the PlayStation 4 console in an unprecedented move that points to console makers' increasing focus on software and services. The slimmer PS4 and PS4 Pro were unveiled at an event on Thursday.
The PS4 Slim might be a streamlined gaming device but there's a lot of good stuff happening inside it!
Amazing HDR visuals are bursting with vivid and vibrant colours that really make you feel part of the action. Speaking of great visuals, the slimline console looks extra good and is available in a range of colours: Jet Black, Glacier White, Gold and Silver.
The new interface makes it even easier to organise your games and apps, and share with your friends. Store your games, apps, screenshots and videos with 500GB and 1TB options.
Playing, sharing and hanging out with fellow gamers, no matter where they are, is a key function of the PS4 Slim console. And with Share Play, you can challenge a friend to multiplayer matches or let them play for you, even if they don’t own the game.
With Remote Play, you can stream games to all sorts of devices: PC, Mac, PlayStation Vita or Sony Xperia over your home WiFi network. You can play virtually anywhere, with no need to be stuck in front of the TV.
If you want to show everyone how good you are, you can stream your gameplay and broadcast live via Twitch, YouTube or DailyMotion. To wow them even more, you can share screenshots and videos of your biggest triumphs on Twitter and Facebook.
Regular system software updates means your PS4 Slim will constantly introduce you to cool new features and even more ways to connect, share and play.

All told, the PS4 Slim improves on its predecessor in almost every way. It's much smaller, lighter, quieter and cheaper. Some people will miss the optical connection, but otherwise this is a job well jobbed. But should you buy one?
Always significantly quieter than the original and often silent; Usefully smaller and arguably better looking; Tiny; handy tweaks to the controller
No optical output or 4K Blu-ray drive

Hey hey hey!
Whisper quiet; Smaller and lighter; Still a PlayStation 4; Easy access to the hard drive
No optical output; Comes with a 500GB hard drive
About a third smaller than the original PS4 and a third more energy efficient, it drops the two-tone matte-and-shiny finish of the first PlayStation 4 and removed the indicator light strip in favour of an all-matte black console.
Aside from those issues, however, the PS4 Slim is everything you'd expect it to be. It would have been nice to see Sony adopt Microsoft's stance and add some new features, but in truth, it really didn't need to.
Now slimmer than ever, the refreshed PlayStation 4 fortifies Sony's iconic gaming platform.
Faster Wi-Fi can make a big difference; Smaller chassis with fun design; Same great PS4 game library; More affordable than ever
No more optical port; More powerful PS4 console also available
After selling over 40 million consoles, Sony is refreshing the PlayStation 4 . That starts with the PlayStation 4 Slim, available now for $299, along with the PlayStation VR headset (out next month) and the higher-powered PS4 Pro, which comes out in November.
