These sound good, maybe sacrificing high frequencies a little for more bass. They sync easily and have good battery life. I dont like the way they extend for a larger size. The headphone control app is not necessary, but is a way to control bass response.
It's all about that bass, right So we've heard, and so has many a headphone manufacturer. From Beats to Skullcandy, the designers of the cans we put over our ears have become obsessed with finding that perfect bass-heavy sound. And, at least with its MDR-XB950N1 pair, Sony is no different.
Comfortable; Fun with bass-heavy music; Long battery life
Rolled off highs and recessed mids; No multipoint pairing; No auto play/pause
I've had these for less than 2 months and both hangars on the sides of the cups have almost completely broken bar one. One cup is hanging on by it's cord alone. and the felt inside the cups is completely torn. Sound quality was fine, deep bass, noise cancelling and such were good Durability was NOT.
Sony's MDR-XB950N1 headphones deliver a sound signature that's less crisp and bright than many we test, but avoid sounding muddy when the bass is tamped down. When the effect is engaged, all bets are off.
Exceptionally powerful bass that can be adjusted using app; Good overall audio performance; Solid noise cancellation; Includes cable for wired listening
Dialed-up bass isn't for people seeking an accurate mix; No remote/inline mic on audio cable
As the field of wireless noise-canceling headphones finally seems to be opening up, products like the Sony MDR-XB950N1 are entering the ring. At $249.99, these headphones are a full $100 less than our current top pick, Bose's QuietComfort 35 ($299.00 at Amazon) . They deliver some truly head-rattling bass that can be tuned to your liking with an app. And noise cancellation is above average, but not quite up to par with more expensive competitors. Design Available in black or green models with a semi-matte finish and a subtle gritty sparkle, the circumaural (over-the-ear) MDR-XB950N1 headphones ($248.94 at Amazon) features circular earcups with huge, well-cushioned memory foam-style earpads. The underside of the headband is also comfortably cushioned and covered in black leather. The cloth grilles covering the drivers are well recessed (by more than half an inch) inside the earpads. Overall, the design has a sharp, minimalist feel despite the rather bulky build. Along the outer p...
For the price, Sony's wireless MDR-XB950N1 headphones deliver laudable noise cancellation and strong wireless audio with adjustable bass response.

Definitely worth every penny, very good sound quality and plenty of bass
I am sending these back, as they are only able to be charged by connecting with a USB cable to a computer. This is not mentioned in any description/ product details. Not useful if going on a 2 week holiday.
I use these every day at work and carry them back and forth using a hard clamshell case. I treat these phones with care and respect since they were a gift and since they represent a significant price upgrade from the old phones I lost. I take care of my stuff.
Good sound Noise cancelling Extra bass
Poor construction Break easily Sound "hiccups" on Bluetooth repeatedly
I bought these as a gift for my husband, and he thinks they are great. They are quite light and super comfy. The song be quality is amazing and the noise cancelling function is superb.
