Good Sound but no so practical

I replaced a pair of Bose with these as I wanted to try something new ... for my needs big mistake, the sound is great but if you want portability ( I am on planes a lot) then the carry case is a lot more bulky and having a charger (for me) is not as convenient as using a normal AA battery.

Exceeded my expectations

Bought these at the airport before a trip to Europe about 3 years ago and have used them many times, on several trips, and at home and the library.
Pros:
  • Great sound
  • Long Battery Life
  • Quiet
Cons:
  • Maybe the case is a little big but it has a lot of stuff

1st Class Quality sound at a mid range price!

These 'phones are incredible. I paid far more than the 179 that Play are selling these for and at that price you are getting Bose/Denon beating headphones. The noise cancelling element has made some recent longhaul flights very easy.

You will be glad these headphones have a "Monitor" button so you are able to listen to what people say to you. Otherwise you'll hardly hear them. Even switching them on in an apparently quiet office environment gives astonishing results.

Sony MDR NC500D: Brilliant headphones, just not worth the price

Well, Sony have created what have been branded as the best noise- canceling headphones ever made. I jumped at the opportunity to buy them. Then my problem arose, £300. I believe that the cut- off point for an personal audio device's price is where it overtakes the price of your iPod.

Excellent Noise Blocking and Great Sound

The Sony MDR-NC500D Digital Noise Cancelling Headphones and one of the best set of noise cancelling headphone I have experienced. They block out slightly less background noise compared to the latest Bose models, but the sound quality and bass response are much better.
Pros:
  • Comfortable
  • Good Bass

Sony MDR-NC500D review

The Sony MDR-NC500Ds aren't as mobile or as unobtrusive as more compact designs, but they're not unduly heavy and many people will find them more comfortable than in-ear products. Intelligent circuitry selects the mode most effective for the environment you're in.

Sony MDR-NC500D Headphones

The Sony MDR -NC500D headphones are a set of noise-cancelling over-ears. With the noise-cancelling feature and premium price ($400), it certainly appears the NC500Ds are Sony's answer to Bose's QuietComfort series. Even the carrying case looks identical to the one Bose offers.
