Excellent everyday use zoom lens for Sony NEX
The lens is made in Thailand, and comes with a certificate of inspection. It takes 55mm filters. Comes with a Zeiss sticker ;)- If you are frustrated with the SEL1855 Kit zoom lens especially with subpar results like barrel distortions at the wide-end look no further
- It beats the kit lens in almost all distortion related issues and has more zoom range viz
- 16mm to 70mm.
- The minimum distance to focus is almost 1ft which is a bit problematic
- Not much change in Image Quality when compared to kit lens
Nice all-purpose zoom!
Very useful range. Lightweight and very nice build. Good sharpness in the center wide open. Corners are OK wide open and improve by f/8. Very nice contrast and colors.- Very useful range

There is no other lens with the size, shape, and quality this has.
This is easy for me to review. Simply put: this lens and the Sony NEX-6 camera is the single best combo I've ever used. I sold my Canon 6D and multitude of lenses for one camera and one lens, and I couldn't be happier.
Fantastic mid range zoom lens
This is my First Zeiss E-Mount lens. My previous lens was the 18-55mm Kit lens for the Sony C3. This new lens has some heft to it. I am an above average beginner camera person so I will tell you my impressions as a beginner.
I would highly recommend yhis lens
This has become my favourite lens for my Sony A6000 camera. Not bulky, small enough to carry around. So far perfect pictures ever time.- Great Picture Quality
- Lightweight
Good Lens, but not Great Lens
On a Sony A6500, the optical performance is not quite equal that of a Canon 24-70 f2.8 with Sigma MC-11 adapter. However, it is significantly less expensive and smaller than the latter combo. Great match for A6500.- size
- optical performance
"It's really, really good, but pricy"
"I bought an NEX-3 because it was small and light. It came with the 16-50 lens. The tiny package produced very, very good images. It now replaces my compact camera. On the strength of that experience, I moved to the a6000 to gain more finesse and a viewfinder. Same lens, better camera performance.
I understand that people are desperate for a good standard zoom lens for the a6xxx series but I'm ...
This lens is not sharp at all. And there's tons of smearing in low light. I understand that people are desperate for a good standard zoom lens for the a6xxx series, but I found all the standard e-mount zoom lenses to be sub-standard in IQ in comparison to other apsc lenses, the Sigma 17-70 2.8-f4 on...
Glued to my camera
I have found not that many great reviews on this 4/16-70, most likely because the price level; good things are not cheap though you always find other things. This is an amazing lens, very sharp, outstanding color quality, a focal length for almost 95% of your shots, light weight, it is just the...
A good lens
I had mixed feelings about buying this lens given the varied reviews it seemed to get. Took the plunge as wanted a new lens for family holiday to alaska. The Sony G lens with slightly wider focal length of 18-105 was tempting but the compact size and weight of this lens clinched it.
