"It's really, really good, but pricy"
"I bought an NEX-3 because it was small and light. It came with the 16-50 lens. The tiny package produced very, very good images. It now replaces my compact camera. On the strength of that experience, I moved to the a6000 to gain more finesse and a viewfinder. Same lens, better camera performance.

This lens is not sharp at all. And there's tons of smearing in low light. I understand that people are desperate for a good standard zoom lens for the a6xxx series, but I found all the standard e-mount zoom lenses to be sub-standard in IQ in comparison to other apsc lenses, the Sigma 17-70 2.8-f4 on...
Good(ish) optically (with reservations) but with slightly "sticky" zoom action - annoying in such an expensive lens
I had reservations about this lens having read many mixed opinions and reviews both here and elsewhere and chose to buy from Amazon mainly because of the straightforward return procedures should the worst come to the worst.
Glued to my camera
I have found not that many great reviews on this 4/16-70, most likely because the price level; good things are not cheap though you always find other things. This is an amazing lens, very sharp, outstanding color quality, a focal length for almost 95% of your shots, light weight, it is just the...
The latest advances in optical design technology have made it possible to deliver prized Carl Zeiss contrast and clarity in a high-performance mid-range zoom lens that is remarkably compact and convenient to use.
Carl-Zeiss Vario-Tessar T* E 16-70mm f/4 ZA OSS ( Sony SEL1670Z ) - Review / Test Report
The Sony's strategy regarding thei APS-C format E-mount system (formerly NEX) may appear to be a bit odd but it's nonetheless successful. Sony released about as many APS-C format cameras as corresponding lenses.
The center area is sharp going toward the edges and corners is unusable, soft and does not get better by stopping it down. From all practical purposed this lens is one notch above useless.
- It is a nice compact beautiful lens
- nice finish
- feels good in the hand and balances well on the A6400 body
- Unacceptably soft outside of the center area
- based on 2 different copies I tried so far.
A good lens
I had mixed feelings about buying this lens given the varied reviews it seemed to get. Took the plunge as wanted a new lens for family holiday to alaska. The Sony G lens with slightly wider focal length of 18-105 was tempting but the compact size and weight of this lens clinched it.
Produces wonderfully natural looking images
This lens isn't known for its sharpness, and often gets bad reviews by those who are slaves to fashion and tests that have no real world relevance. It's not soft; it's just not razor sharp. People focus on razor sharpness because it's unnatural..
