Sony E 16mm F2.8 Review (Review Sony SEL16F28 16mm f/2.8 Wide-Angle Lens)
The Sony E 16mm F2.8 was one of Sony's first mirrorless lenses. It's still on sale, but is in dire need of an update for use with modern cameras.
Pros:
- Very small and light., Affordable., Wide angle of view.
Cons:
- Dated optics., Not sharp until f/5.6., Limited to contrast focus.

this a great deal but image quality is average at best
Decent lens for the price. Together with the ultra-wide and fisheye converters, this a great deal but image quality is average at best. Videographers can get away with the quality although there's no hybrid AF (contrast+phase detection) support so AF is a little slow (at least it's smooth).

Very Poor Quality
This 16mm was the first lens I purchased together with my NEX-5 about 14 months ago and was always a disappointment, a great focal length that fails to deliver on sharpness. The optimum aperture for sharpness turns out to be 6.3 or 7.1 and is still not great, which is a shame because Sony has...

Just not sharp enough
I bought to use on a Sony a6500 along with a Sony E 35mm F/1.8 Oss lens. This lens is way too soft in the images and video. Compared to the 35mm, it's not even close. The 35mm is razor sharp for pictures & video with very quick focus. The 16mm will most likely be my first B&H return.

Quite compact and great price
Got this lens to use on a gimbal. It's smaller than the kit lens with a wider aperture.

Sony E 16mm f/2.8 SEL16F28
The size of the lens make a NEX camera system almost pocketable. If you like the idea of a wide prime for your NEX camera, right now there's simply nothing else available. It's an interesting little lens, but its price point and its performance are perhaps limiting it to strictly consumer...

Sony E 16mm f/2.8 (NEX) Lens Review
Sony E 16mm f/2.8 was one of the three lenses that Sony officially announced with the release of its new NEX system. Along with Sony E 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6, it was also offered as one of the kit lens options for the original Sony NEX-3, NEX-5 and later NEX-C3 and NEX-5n.

At the price I had to pay in bundle with NEX-5 it is a bargain. However Panasonic shows that it could be made way better with it's Lumix G F1,7/ 20 mm
Pros:
- produces a slight amount of pincushion distortion (~0.6%) which is usually not objectionable in field conditions
- At f/8 it is working very good all over the image field
Cons:
- the corner performance is rather poor especially at f/2.8 and f/4
- The fairly heavy amount of lateral CAs isn't helpful
