Sony Cybershot DSC-RX100 V
The fifth generation in the popular Sony RX100 series offers improved hardware and support for 4K recordings.

The 20 MP camera sensor remains the same, but the image processor is more powerful than previous generations.

Sony Cybershot DSC-RX100 V is a compact camera that easily fits in your pocket. It carries a rather high price tag, but Sony still offers good value for money.

The camera that does it all

Only have had this camera for a few weeks but have yet to find anything I don't like about it. I've been a Canon person for many years and DSC-RX100 V has replaced my Canon G5X, which I really liked, but damaged it after a long hard drop to the pavement.

Superb bit of kit

I was looking for the best premium compact on the market and all the online reviews pointed to the Sony RX100 V it's a superb bit of kit. Factor in you will need a case, spare battery and a screen protector and you won't get much change from a grand. That been said there isn't a better compact.

My return to Sony Cybershot

Ive had 3-4 Cybershots in the past, and always liked them. Got on the Lumix train, and am quite fond of those but this Cybershot RX-100VA caught my eye and checked most of the right boxes this time.

Image quality Easy navigate menus On-board menu descriptions/interface Easy wi-fi transfers Reputation of the entire RX series

Battery life No touch screen In-cam battery charging Very minimal included (printed) documentation Should include the optional rubber "grip" which Ive since added; as standard (come on Sony...seriously

Serious side piece

Personally prefer the five over the six. 1.8 is more important to me than 200mm. For what I want to do with it, quick pictures and video, I can just walk closer if I need the zoom. Speed > zoom imo. The pictures are sharp. The video is impressive. RAW with manual settings capability is important.

So, I just got my RX100V, which is intented to be the "keep it in my bag" camera. I am upgrading from the first version of the RX100 and I have a Panny FZ1000. I guess I became the 1-inch sensor kind-of guy.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 V

Sony continues to update its premium RX100 pocket camera series on a yearly basis. The latest edition, the Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 V ($999.99), uses the same lens and body design as models dating back to 2014's RX100 III , but adds a vastly improved phase detect autofocus system and ups the burst...

1-inch image sensor; Wide-aperture zoom lens; Strong low-light performance; Quick autofocus; 24fps burst shooting; Raw shooting support; Customizable controls; Tilting LCD; Pop-up OLED EVF; Wi-Fi with NFC; Super slow-motion HD video; 4K recording

Very expensive; Competing models have longer zoom lenses; Omits hot shoe; Lacks touch screen; Long times to clear buffer and render HFR video

Sony RX100 V review

Sony's Cyber-shot RX100 Mark V is arguably the most powerful premium compact camera to date, packing unparalleled speed and high-end features into a pocketable body. It's the first fixed-lens camera in its class to sport embedded phase-detect AF points in the 1inch sensor, allowing smooth and...

Sony Cyber-shot RX100 V Compact Camera Review

The Sony Cyber-shot RX100 V is a very compact and stylish camera with loads of power "under the hood." It features a 13.2x8.8mm (aka 1-inch type) sensor with an image resolution of 20 megapixels.

In case you couldn't tell, much of this review has been a bit of a battle between the spec sheet and real-world use, and between being impressed by the capability but let down by the experience.
