I purchased this camera in late June, 2014 and have used it regularly. My photographic interest is the outdoors, both scenic and wildlife from closeup to telephoto, and the wide angle with 63X optical zoom allows amazing reach.

We bought the DSC-H400 camera to replace our older Sony DSC-H7 that had served us well for many years. The purchase was made so we would have a better camera for our "vacation of a lifetime" Alaskan cruise.

i am a novice photographer so i cant say much as this is my first camera besides my mobile :) i love the picture quality its an easy 5 stars if that was all i was judging it by But. there is some options ether i cant find or it didn't have.

Slow, but great zoom

I have always liked Sony cameras and have purchased five through the years at Walmart. I've never had a "bad" one, but they just keep getting better. The lens is fantastic and 63x zoom is beyond great.

Even though the camera was in a plastic cover, the lens was dirty when i got the item. Then i asked for a replacement. The second product was also the same. This time they forgot to package the free carry bag. Still no idea how the lens got dirty. Any way I asked for refund.

So I'm not an advanced photographer at all but I have loved using this camera as a step up into taking nicer photos. This camera is easy to use and easy to figure out. The book that comes with it leaves something to be desired but you can basically figure out all of the functions of your camera...

sensor being small compared to zoom size, good for amateur. if you are willing to 10k more you may end up apc or fullframe... which will give finer printing photos... the optical zoom is extraordinarily superb for novice like me. Pros: Superb Optical Zoom Cons: Sensor size is small.

the camera feels solid, well built and the photo's are great, the unit has loads of features and excellent zoom, minimum instructions but play with the camera for ten minutes and you soon get used to it.
