Got this unit as a replacement from Sony after the BDP-S3500 player I purchased two months earlier failed. This one is just like the 3500 except it has 3D capability and, instead of working for two months, it worked for only TWO WEEKS before developing the same uncorrectable problem that 3500 had.

The Sony BDP-S5500 Blu-Ray player combines the best of the S3500 and S4500 models, providing 3D Blu-Ray playback and excellent connectivity, with Wi-Fi and Smart TV functions. It's a very versatile player and highly recommended.

I'd have given this product zero stars but there's no way of doing that. Initially, the player wouldn't power up. Somewhere between the 10th and 15th try the power went on. Setup seemed to work well. My first test was to play a CD and that worked. After that, nothing else worked.

This player goes far beyond what I was expecting from a blue ray player. Easy to set up and fun to play with. I have played with the apps it has more than I've played the blue ray player. Great buy

I bought. Mainly for the streaming capabilities since I don't purchase cable etc. I use it mainly for hulu Netflix and so on. The picture quality is great and it works great. This is my first smart home device besides having a smart phone and I really find it easy to use and for me it's all I need...

Worked for a year and a half of VERY light use. 3D, blurays, DVDs worked fine prior to breakdown - was used maybe once or twice a quarter. Now it doesn't recognize disks of any format. Unplugged and changed outlet, confirmed firmware is latest, reset to default - still nothing.

So far it works as advertised. It meets my needs and more.

Is it just us or are Blu-ray players getting smaller? The Sony BDP-S5500, the Japanese company's most recent budget deck, comes in at little more than the size of a hardback book, shrinking even further from last year's already dinky S5200.
