Sony Alpha A7 review

Verdict: The compact system camera market is still relatively new to the camera world, but it's still able to produce new cameras that shake up the system just a little bit. Sony is no stranger to innovation, with its seemingly relentless desire to be seen at the forefront of consumer technology.

Sony A7

5.0
Verdict: The Sony A7 is the world's first 35mm full-frame compact system camera (along with the A7R that was launched at the same time). The Sony A7 has a 24.3 megapixel full-frame sensor with an optical low-pass filter, a Sony E bayonet mount, a new range of full-frame E-mount lenses, a...

Sony a7 Review: Catapulting the Mirrorless Market

3.8
Verdict: Perhaps the bigger issue, for some, is choosing between the a7 and the a7R. Frankly, I'd happily pay the extra $300, put up with some more, slightly slower performance and huge files to get the extraordinary resolution of the a7R over the a7.
Pros: excellent image quality, advanced feature set with extensive custom options, high quality electronic viewfinder, Wi-Fi
Cons: slightly sub-par kit lens vs. cameras' capabilities, movie record button awkwardly placed, autofocus somewhat sluggish in low light, relatively short battery life, limited availability of native full-frame lenses at launch

Sony Alpha 7 Camera Review

Verdict: I was seriously considering one of these, but I am definitely having second thoughts. I have shot with high end Sony camcorders for years. The irony here is that with the large capacity batteries, Sony camcorders like the NX5 have the longest single charge run time in the industry.

Goondu Review: Sony Alpha 7

No reviews
Verdict: The Sony Alpha 7 is a camera that has garnered a lot of interest lately and it is clear why. It is arguably one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest, around to house a 35mm full-frame sensor. It's also a handy mirrorless camera system.

Sony Alpha 7 review

4.4
Verdict: Along with the 36.4-million-pixel Alpha 7R that we tested at the end of 2013 (AP 14 December), Sony also gave us the 24.3-million-pixel Alpha 7. While sharing many of the same key features as the Alpha 7R, including the same design and a virtually identical build, the Sony Alpha 7 also has a few new...

Sony Alpha A7

4.0
Verdict: The Sony A7 is the first consumer-level, full-frame CSC to hit the market. It is solidly built, well priced, and comes with all the functions you'd expect. But aside from the impressive sensor, there are no other features to get particularly excited about.

Sony A7 Review

No reviews
Verdict: My A7 is much better than my digital LEICAs. The A7 is a huge step forward for LEICA shooters. The A7 is for backpacking nature and outdoor photographers. Forget the tweakers' A7r. It has poorer autofocus and its bloated files clog professional workflow.

Sony Alpha A7

Verdict: Meet the Sony Alpha 7, or A7. Sporting a 24MP full-frame sensor and the E-Mount that has only been used on the NEX until now, this is the Japanese company's newest flagship. There's a lot in a name – and that fact that this doesn't have an NEX badge, like its mirrorless siblings, is curious.

Pros: Small and well-priced full-frame body, Very good image quality when shooting Raw, Solid build quality, Compatible with a huge range of legacy 35mm camera lenses with no field-of-view crop, Large, high resolution electronic viewfinder, Tilting LCD offers good detail and outdoor visibility, Useful...

Sony Alpha A7 review

4.5
Verdict: When the Sony Alpha A7 first materialised we were really rather excited. The first compact system camera with a full-frame sensor to surface in the market, it answered a question so many had been waiting for. Big sensor, small size, affordable price.
Pros: Affordable, small size, full-frame image quality is great with prime lens attached, excellent electronic viewfinder quality, tilt-angle LCD, button customisation, focus peaking for manual focus
Cons: Poor battery life, 28-70mm kit lens not great, full FE lens system yet to materialise, AF-C not comparable to DSLR, no pinpoint AF can mean questionable accuracy

Sony A7

4.5
Verdict: When we reviewed Sony's A7R mirrorless camera, we were thrilled by its combination of a full-frame image sensor and a compact body. The Sony A7 offers both, and yet it's even more affordable.
Pros: Incredibly small body for a fully-featured, full-frame camera; Very high resolution; Hybrid autofocus is reasonably fast and confident; Significantly better burst-shooting performance than A7R; Excellent image quality even at very high sensitivities; Faster x-sync than A7R; Accepts existing...
Cons: Grass-is-greener syndrome when compared to its higher-res sibling; Moderate performance; Loud shutter (but electronic first-curtain helps); Mediocre battery life when using electronic viewfinder; Weak low-light autofocus considering its price; Limited selection of native Sony FE lenses, Very limited...

Camera Test: Sony Alpha 7 (A7)

No reviews
Verdict: Comparisons are tricky for the A7, since there are no other 24MP ILCs, other than Sony's discontinued NEX-7 and newly announced Alpha 6000, which we haven't tested; the only other full-frame ILC is the A7R.

Sony Alpha A7

4.4
Verdict: The Sony Alpha A7 is a mirrorless system camera with a full-frame sensor. Sony Alpha 7

4.5
Verdict: The Alpha 7 ($1,699.99 direct, body only) is one of a pair of new full-frame mirrorless cameras from Sony. Aside from the model badge, it looks the same as its twin, the Alpha 7R , but the two cameras are quite different internally.
Pros: Full-frame image sensor. 5fps burst shooting. Snappy autofocus. Impressive high ISO performance. Sharp, tilting rear LCD. Focus peaking. Excellent OLED EVF. Great control layout. Compact, dust and moisture-resistant body. Vertical shooting grip available.
Cons: Sensor design includes OLPF. No PC sync socket. No built-in flash. External battery charger not included. Native lens library is in its infancy

Cons: General burst mode performance poor, Currently a limited range of lenses, So-so kit lens

Sony Alpha A7

Verdict: I was very let down when I first used this camera out of the box but then I popped a prime lens on it and it was AMAZING! Normally I think kit lenses are underrated and take too much abuse but this camera's kit lens is just horrible. Once I put a $198 50mm lens on the camera is was incredible.

Lovely camera

3.0
Verdict: I bought this camera ten days ago and am now pleased with the performance and features. The only down side was/is the documentation. It took the whole ten days and an unsuccessful hour long call to your support team to discover they could not suggest a way to connect wirelessly to my iMac or iPhone.

Sony Alpha ILCE-7 review by andre_

Verdict: At first, I bought this camera for using some old lenses and some Leica M-Mount lenses. I appreciated immediately the possibility to customize almost every single button and gear, but what I really fall in love with was the viewfinder.
Pros: Small camera, great viewfinder, highly customizable
Cons: A bigger battery, please

Great Full Frame camera

5.0
Verdict: I bought this mainly to use old 35 non-AF lenses on and with an adaptor I bought separately it's great. Lots of features but easy enough to navigate. Only issue is that 4k video / S Log is not available unlike the A7r or other A series models but they are far more expensive.

Great lens, very good camera

5.0

Sony Alpha A7

5.0
Verdict: With a DxOMark score of 94, the iPhone 8+ beats my Sony a7's score of 90. My a7 has been a good camera but, honestly, as a phone it sucks. I've downloaded lots of apps but they just do stuff like time lapse and waterfall smoothing. You can't even get Candy Crush or Angry Birds.

This is *the* mirrorless camera to buy.

Verdict: I have been wow'd by photos from people using the A7 series (A7, A7s, and A7r). I looked at all three and really the standout in the crowd was the A7. I owned an older Sony Alpha camera and had several lens for it, so if I was going to move or change cameras, I wanted to use those lenses.
