I use this mic since mid-2011 and it has never disappointed. I SM58SE version, which is the same as the SM58LCE with a start / stop. The price / quality ratio is excellent, it is a reference microphone.

This microphone is the perfect combination between presence and feedback rejection. It has a slight cut around 7khz and the highs are rolled off around 15khz. Use it for those not so pleasant voices that are loud or ear piercing and it works wonders on male falsetto as well.

I bought my SM 58 in 1980 at a music store in Dayton, Ohio. As I recall, I paid about $100. I've been using it for about 40% of my live performances ever since. I do from 50 - 100 shows a year and many of the shows are outside. This mic has outlasted several PAs,keyboards and amps!

The SM-58 is pretty much the most used vocal microphone in the world. It works great with a transceiver, with just the right frequency response curve for speech communication. Clear, crisp, natural, and uncolored, it simply works well.

In conclusion, yes there are a lot of mics that sound better, and some of these are quite a bit cheaper ? but ask yourself the question are they as durable as an SM58, and if you are a professional, will your clients want to use a mic they have never heard of?

It's a good idea to replace the screen on 58s every now and then. This is an OEM replacement at a great price [...]. How can you lose?
