Good but expensive. Handy to get an in-store trial

Sounds nice and clear with decent bass - not as much as on Bose noise cancelling, but they take up much less space and don't boil my ears. Quite fiddly to put on but comfortable. Bobbi at the City branch gave great service by getting some into the branch to try out, which is essential for in-ear...

Bought a second pair of 535's to replace a lost pair. I've been using them for the past 3 years and they've been totally reliable, and sound quality is great for the price.

Shure's SE535V+BT1 earbuds may be prohibitively expensive, but their rich sound, repairability, and ability to be modified to meet your individual needs place them among the finest earphones we've had the opportunity to use.
Pros:
  • Incredible sound quality
  • Thick cables prevent tangling and microphonics
  • Outstanding passive noise cancellation
  • Comfortable to wear for long listening sessions
Cons:
  • Prohibitively expensive for most people
  • Reveal the flaws in low quality recordings and streaming music
  • More difficult to insert into ears than the competition

Shure's SE535 earphones are a little bit perfect

Asking me to tell you what the best headphones are is like asking WeRateDogs to pick its favorite canine. In both cases, there's far too much variety, diversity, and idiosyncratic charm to crown just one specimen as the very finest.
Pros:
  • Splendid bass
  • Faultlessly realistic sound
  • Very light and comfortable to wear
  • Cable is resistant to tangling and replaceable
Cons:
  • Transparency of the sound exposes poorly recorded music
  • Cost means you can't toss these around like any old pair of buds
  • Need good equipment to get the most out of them
  • No in-line microphone or remote on default cable

Accurate, Revealing In Ear Monitors

I think the SE535's are well on the other side of the boundary between earphones and in-ear-monitors. Other reviews suggested these Shures would reveal source limitations - I have found that to be true.
Pros:
  • Accuracy and sound quality - no noticeable coloration
  • The sound loosens up once you've got a few hours on them
  • Interchangeable wire allows you to use custom wire or Shure's Bluetooth cable
Cons:
  • Be prepared to hear whether your favorite music was really well recorded, or not
  • Um, kind of fussy over the ear wires - which I'm getting used to now

Best Overall Sound!

Upgraded from the SE425 to SE535 and didn't realize just how much I was missing. Goes toe-to-toe on bass with Bose in-ear headphones plus sounds better overall.

I lost my 425 and thought this would be a good replacement. It is good, but the price difference is definitely not justified. And I preferred bass of 425 more. Oh well. Plus, the special "red" version cable is relatively flimsy and does not go behind your neck as in 425.

Shure SE535 Earphones with Replaceable Cables

I used to own Klipsch x10 and x11i IEMs, as well as some Monster Turbines. To give a perspective, those IEMs ranged ~$200 and were all single driver. All of them were also pretty bass heavy, which if you've done your research, you'll realize is a big change going to the more neural SE 535s.
