Sennheiser iE80 review

The iE80s might cost a bit, but they're a truly quality in-ear option

Quality finish; selection of accessories; open presentation; exceptionally detailed sound; adjustable bass delivery works well

Not cheap

In terms of sounds quality I cant disagree with most of the reviews on here. These things are phenomenal. But they wont last you for more than a couple of years. The cable broke on mine after a year of use.

Upgrade from IE8

As an owner of the original IE8 I was looking for something similar to upgrade to and saw that Sennheiser had just released the IE80S. After about a week with the earphones now I can happily report that they have improved on the original design significantly.

Sennheiser IE80

Dear fellow music lovers, the IE80 have been around a while and, despite several reviews and an almost infinite thread, still it is not easy to gather in a single place all the information concerning this beautiful IEM.

Very good sound quality

Not an all rounder

Sennheiser IE 80

There's something curious about the way so many people disregard high-end in-ear headphones like the Sennheiser IE 80. We've met people who think nothing of laying down hundreds of pounds for a surround system they'll barely use properly – for fear of offending housemates, other halves or waking...

Excellent bass; Great detail

Minor upgrade over IE 8; Average looks; Bass dial arguably unnecessary

Sennheiser IE 80 review

The £269 price tag is quite high for a pair of in-ear headphones but the sound quality of the Sennheiser IE 80s is excellent, and the comfort and durability that stand out over impressive but fragile rivals.

Bass tweaking; Comfortable design; Powerful all-round sound

High price tag; Giant case

Sennheiser IE 80 S

The Sennheiser IE 80 S earphones offer audio performance in line with their lofty price, and a number of attractive features, like adjustable bass and a detachable cable. But adjusting the bass can be frustrating, the included cable lacks a remote, and we wish the ear hooks were permanently built...

Excellent audio performance; Generous array of eartips and accessories; Adjustable bass response; Removable cable

Expensive; Included cable lacks inline remote control or mic; Difficult to adjust bass levels and have an accurate ear-to-ear mix; Snap-on ear hooks don't always stay in place

Sennheiser IE 80 S Review

Sennheiser has a reputation for excellence when it comes to headphones and microphones, but in-canal earphones are a smaller piece of the puzzle for the German audio manufacturer. At $349.99, the IE 80 S earphones are an expensive offering, but the good news is that they sound fantastic. They also feature adjustable bass and ship with a wide selection of eartips. That said, the design isn't as user-friendly as it should be, especially for the price, and that keeps the pair from scoring top marks. Design Visually speaking, the IE 80 S ($349.99 at Sennheiser) are rather humdrum. A black matte cable leads to black matte earpieces, one marked with a red band for right. The look here is professional gear—not ugly, but not stylish. There's no inline remote control. The included cable can be removed and replaced with one that has a remote, but it costs more money (as of this writing, there is no official word on the pricing or availability of the replacement cable). Why Sennheiser doesn...

Sennheiser's IE 80 S earphones produce sound worthy of their $350 price, but some peculiar design decisions make the overall experience feel less than luxurious.
