Sennheiser HD 238: When they were good they were really good. When they were ba ...

Sennheiser HD 238 My partner and I share a lot of loves though music is not one of them. Due to this, I felt it time to buy a set of headphones in order to stop my other half complaining loudly every time I wanted to listen to some music on my computer.

Sennheiser HD238i

Sennheiser is no stranger to audio excellence in headphones, so it's no surprise that the HD 238i sound pretty sweet. Sennheiser has taken its high-quality HD 238 headphones and added an in-line remote and microphone specifically for iPhone users.

Nice, warm audio; great in-line mic

Feel a bit flimsy

Sennheiser HD 238 Precision headphones

Sennheiser's HD 238 Precision headphones are made with good quality components and are comfortable to wear in almost all conditions. The headphones have detailed sound reproduction but we found they seemed flatter than other models, requiring some equaliser adjustment for rich audio.

Good build quality; comfortable ear-cups and headband

Slightly distant mid-bass; "leaky" open nature

Sennheiser HD 238

The problem is, that deal is unlikely to last. These headphones have been discontinued, presumably replaced by the Sennheiser HD 239s (list price $120). (Sennheiser also makes the HD 229 headphones, which sell for between $60 and $80.

The Sennheiser HD 238 on-ear headphones are comfortable and affordable; and sound good for the money

The headphones fold flat but lack a compact design like the Bose OE2 headphones; there's no integrated microphone for cell phones (like the step-up 238i); this is a discontinued model that will disappear from stores quickly

Sennheiser HD 238

Recently, I reviewed Sennheiser's HD 238i headphones and thought they were a great deal because they sounded very good and were selling online for $60 online. Well, as soon as I said they were a great deal, a bunch of people went out and bought them on Amazon and the vendors promptly raised the...

Plenty of punchy bass; good amount of detail; extremely comfortable; lightweight

Very little isolation; uninspired high frequencies; not the most travel-friendly

Sennheiser HD 238

The surprisingly awful HD 228 isn't the only pair of Sennheiser headphones to be endorsed by a superstar DJ as there are two more models in the range: the HD 218 and the HD 238.

Comfortable to wear; even after several hours; Light but well-made design; Good coverage of frequencies accross the spectrum

Terrible cable and connector; Can't be fully folded; Not very well insulated for use out and about

Great sound and comfort

I produce my own music and listen mostly on an iPhone while I'm moving about. I travel and also commute by subway to work, the Sennheiser HD 238 blocks most of the 'ambient' (that's a nice word for it) noise. Great balance and low end. Exactly what I've wanted in headphones now for many years.

Comfortable; Good Bass; Good Value; Great Sound

Unattractive Design

Perfectly adequate for me, although I am sure there are better options out there.

Having started using my laptop for watching films whilst staying away in hotel rooms, I recently decided to invest in a pair of decent headphones to replace the standard iPod ones I have been using for years.
