Worthwhile option

I purchased the Samyang 85mm F/1.4 after a most enjoyable experience with the Samyang 12mm F2. I considered the highly regarded Fuji 90mm F2 but was unsure if I would use the 135mm FF equivalent enough to warrant the near 4-figure spend.

SAMYANG 85mm F1.4 Aspherical IF Lens for FUJI X-Mount

It has a unique cinematic look to it, low on contrast and saturation and little soft, for most people this is unacceptable but i find it special and i can get really beautiful images out of it

Build quality is fine; not as good as Fuji lenses but not bad

Little soft; so will avoid shooting wide open with it

outstanding!...some clown called this a ''Toy'' this lens is no where near a toy.

Great fast fixed 1.4 85mm people today want autofocus and nothing else , you can use live view to get a super sharp image or take a few extra shots around where you think is the best focus area is. Real photographers can appreciate a fast fixed manual lens, solid and sharp

Easy

I almost ordered a $900 lens and then found this. I was a little nervous due to this lens not having as many reviews, but I am so happy I ordered it! Yes it's manual, but who cares at this price point it doesn't get much better and I feel manual focus is often sharper than auto focus anyway.

Love it!

Have a great price for a 85mm. Heavy, nice to work with. Great quality of the image. Be careful, this lens is manual.

A great lens: sharp as a knife wide open with industrial strength background blur (if that's your thing)

I paid just over £279 for it from Amazon "warehouse deals" and it was in perfect condition. I wanted a fast 85mm prime lens for my Sony Alpha A6000. Whilst this Samyang at F1.4 looked like great value on paper, what initially put me off was the lack of auto-focus.

Brilliant

It's a beautiful lens and able to capture brilliant images in any light. Remember it's a manual only lens so it will teach you a lot about the importance of focus

Generally, I'd rate this lens higher, if I didn't get a bad example. First: image quality is excellent when nearly wide open, and still very good when stopped down. Bokeh is superb--certainly the best of any lens I have, and better than Nikon manual focus 85mm.

Excellent IQ; nearly wide open Excellent bokeh No distortion

Sticking aperture blades When stopped down; not as good as competition

Samyang 85mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC

At around a quarter of the price of the Canon and Nikon alternatives, the Samyang 85mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC is a very affordable alternative to the OEM offerings. The image quality isn't very sharp throughout the frame until f/4, though, which somewhat negates the Samyang lens' headline maximum...

Samyang 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical (full format) - Review / Test Report

However, upon first contact you will experience two immediate drawbacks - the lens does not offer AF nor any "native" coupling apart from the Canon EF-compatible mount or in other words: it does not require an adapter (it's available for various mounts - not just Canon).
