Samyang 14mm F2.8 Lens ED AS IF UMC Canon SY83102 review

The Rokinon 14mm ƒ/2.8 IF ED UMC is a surprising hidden gem of a lens. Producing very sharp images with great chromatic aberration control and good build quality, all for the unbelievably low price of around $330 , the Rokinon 14mm lens is a fantastic value.

Samyang/Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC

This low-cost lens works well on my APS-C camera for shooting night photos. The wide aperture allows a lot of light in while the aspherical elements of the lens minimize coma around points of light (stars). It beats the higher priced Canon lenses, for example.
Pros:
  • low cost
  • excellent sharpness
Cons:
  • distortion

Firstly I am a happy user of Samyang 85 and 8 mm lenses and I was looking forward to adding the Samyang 14mm to my lenses! Unfortunately mine came with 2 issues: 1. Lens could not achieve infinity focus (easily adjusted at least) 2.
Pros:
  • Good price if you get a good one Sharp if you get a good one AE along with focus confirm works on Pentax mount Reasonably fast
Cons:
  • Quality control FF distortion but could live with it FF vignetting but could live with it

Samyang 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Aspherical - APS-C Review / Test Report

Upon first contact you will experience two immediate drawbacks - the lens does not offer AF nor any "native" coupling apart from the Canon EF-compatible mount. Consequently you have to focus manually either by checking the viewfinder image or by using Live-View.
