Full Manual, Samyang 14mm f2.8 lens, BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!!!
I love tthe Samyang 14mm f2.8 Full Manual Lens, it is extremely sharp and especially at f4.0. On a nice day it is easy to focus in live veiw but if it is low light or very bright Sun it can be difficult to focus ( That is the only reason it didn't get 5 stars from me and unfortunatly, I can't give...
Samyang 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Aspherical - Full Format Review / Test Report
Upon first contact you will experience two immediate drawbacks - the lens does not offer AF nor any "native" coupling apart from the Canon EF-compatible mount. Consequently you have to focus manually either by checking the viewfinder image or by using Live-View.
Samyang 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Lens Review
Handling and features Performance Verdict Specification This lens is available to fit many different types of cameras, including Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Sony and Four Thirds SLRs as well as Samsung NX mirrorless cameras and costs around £260.- Extremely inexpensive
- Excellent sharpness in the centre at f/2.8 and across the frame when stopped down to f/5.6 or beyond
- Good build
- Relatively lightweight
- Extremely low CA levels
- Wavy distortion
- Falloff of illumination towards the corners
- No hyperfocal scale or hard infinity stop
Very good value
Excellent optical performance with rugged construction. No electronic connection to the camera, so manual aperture and focus. Better on mirrorless cameras where the manual aperture is not a problem. Good value.- Durable
- Sharp Focus
- Strong Construction
- Heavy
Sharp with correctable distortion
Sharp, wide correctable distortion, Nikon version with AE chip gives exposure, changing f stop and shutter speed from camera, manual focus but there is focus confirmation dot. For landscapes at F11 the depth of field is huge and I leave it to infinity focus.
Amazing Bargain for a Wide Angle
I love the wide capability of this lens, although it can be tricky to tell if things are in focus even with an external monitor. I have used it to shoot a music video in some abandoned castles and Ireland and it worked perfectly for some creepy shots and haunted effects.
Best Bang for Your Buck!
Im very much into super wide photography. Night sky, Milky Way, Sunsets/sunrise, you name it. The sharpness is very good. Great color and contrast. There is some serious distortion to deal with, but Lightroom has a Samyang Profile correction which knocks that out with a click.
This is the second lens I received from Amazon after returning the first for the same issues (only this one may even be slightly worse). When using the live view function of my camera zoomed all the way in on a distant point source of light like a star, the light gradually gets smaller and smaller,...
Samyang 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC
Although it can be used on both 'full frame' and APS-C DSLRs, Samyang's 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC lens is best suited to 'full frame' DSLRs, where it covers a maximum angle of view equal to 115.7 degrees and can focus down to 0.28 meters (28 cm).
Samyang 14mm F2.8 Lens ED AS IF UMC Canon SY83102 review
Just bought a red ring version for about 230$ used.At first, I was pissed off, as photos seemed to be very soft. Then I realized focus scale is not correct, and i should not go beyond 2m marking for infinity focus. After I learned correct focus distances, all my test photos were tack sharp from...- Very sharp at f4
- good build quality
- extremely wide on a ff
- Inaccurate focus scale
- extreme lower right corner is slightly soft
