Foldables are going to play a role in the future of smartphones. Even if they seem expensive, fragile, and compromised right now, they won’t be forever. Just seeing the progression in quality from the first Galaxy Fold, which had a horrendous launch, to the quality of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 indicates that the industry is headed in the right direction. You buy it because of what it does for you right now, and what it offers beyond what you get from a regular smartphone. Samsung Galaxy Fold2 5G - Black SM-F916BZKAXNZ review
I started out as a folding phone critic. In fact, I bought the Z Flip we reviewed this spring with the full intention of pointing out how dumb the idea was, except I was dead wrong.
Pros:
- Build quality Some of the nicest hardware I've ever touched
- Folding screen Big, super-smooth, bright display
- Bigger cover display It's large enough you can actually do stuff on it
- Multitasking This has enough space and the right tools to do real work on a phone.
Cons:
- Price $2,000 is whole lot of money to spend on a phone
- Average cameras Not living up to the price tag
- Folding screen Unarguably less durable than a Gorilla Glass or Victus display
- No IP rating Understandable given the design, but still a bummer.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the only foldable phone you should consider buying in 2020 if you want to maximize that satisfying ‘wow’ factor when showing it off. It feels like you own a smartphone from the future when you collapse its tablet-sized screen in half, and the larger front display and stronger hinge fix the biggest Gen 1 issues. Be warned: it’s still priced for early adopters and the cameras on the Note 20 Ultra are better.
