Samsung’s Galaxy S20 FE 5G was a really interesting smartphone to me. For the price, I was deeply, deeply unimpressed with the regular Galaxy S20 line in Malaysia because of the sub-par performance from the Exynos 990 processor and measly 128GB of internal storage.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is a rarefied blend of performance, value and sound design that combines the excellent Snapdragon 865 processor, a 120Hz display, a great set of cameras and excellent battery life in an incredibly comprehensive package. This is one of the best Android phones of 2020.
Pros:
- Excellent performance with Snapdragon 865 CPU
- Good cameras
- Attractive colour variants
- Smooth 120Hz display
- Supports DeX mode
- IP68 water resistance
Cons:
- No 3.5mm audio jack
- No fast charger bundled with phone

The increasing cost of flagship smartphones over the last couple of years has put them out of reach for many consumers. We all knew it was coming in late 2018 when Apple priced the iPhone X at a cool $999.
Cons:
- Snapdragon 865 Performance for $500 or less on sale, Beautiful AMOLED display with lots of brightness, Solid battery life, Decent camera array with AI digital zoom

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE undercuts the S20 on price but with similar specifications, where are the cutbacks?
Pros:
- Better price than S20
- Better battery life than S20
- Better performance than S20 (on 5G version)
Cons:
- Plastic design
- Lower resolution screen
- Not quite the best value

The Galaxy S20 FE is much more than a Fan Edition, it’s the phone that Samsung needed for 2020. The prices of the flagship phones has grown out of control, combine that with a worldwide pandemic, and it was clear something needed to be done.

Currently, Samsung just offers the Exynos 990, LTE variant here in the Philippines which is priced at PHP 35,990. If you want the 5G version, you’ll have to source the Snapdragon variant, which is not easy to get since Samsung is yet to offer it here.
