Samsung Galaxy Note II review

The Galaxy Note proved conclusively that there is a market for supersized smartphones. Truth be told, I'm not sure where this market is - I can only recall seeing a Galaxy Note being used in public twice in and around New York City over the past six months - but it's there.
Pros:
  • The Galaxy Note II is bound to be just as polarizing as its predecessor thanks to its massive footprint
  • but this phablet has some things going for it that are difficult to argue with.
Cons:
  • When I reviewed the Galaxy Note , there was plenty that I enjoyed about the phone
  • There was just one thing that I really couldn't work my way past, and that was the size
  • The same is true now
  • The Galaxy Note II is positively massive
  • It's almost a punch line.

Tech reviewers, yours truly included, don't always get things right. At times (though a rarity) we fail to understand what the consumers desire and dismiss products that eventually become immensely successful.

That's a relief

My HTC HD2 died There are so many alternatives choosing where to go next took a while during which I used a £15 Nokia, it was like stepping back in time with T9 texting I used to run a studio and spent a fortune repairing Apple Macs "It just works" is their slogan, but when it doesn't "just work"...

Samsung Galaxy Note 2

In spite of its rather unusual format (huge screen, stylus) the Galaxy Note was a technically accomplished phone that ended up selling like hot cakes.
Pros:
  • Unusual concept but actually quite effective in practice
  • Generally good AMOLED screen
  • Battery life / Multimedia performances
  • Stylus
  • interesting input options
  • handwriting recognition
  • Powerful
  • excellent responsiveness

Samsung Galaxy Note II

What the first generation Galaxy Note did was to bring the hybrid device between the smartphone and the tablet to the masses. And the popularity of the Note surprised us as well, admittedly.

  • Superb Performance
  • Android Jelly Bean on-board
  • More RAM makes heavy usage smoother
  • Very good display quality
  • Better than expected battery life
  • Air-View is very neat feature
Cons:
  • Too big for most users

Samsung Galaxy Note II review

And although a couple of minor missteps – namely the camera quality and lower-than-we'd-like screen brightness – hold it back it from greatness, this is still a stunning smartphone and another great addition to Samsung's Galaxy range.
