Out of nowhere, I was getting attacked by a bird. A giant bird, with a sharp, bony face and huge talons. A monster that would screech down out of the sky and grab me if I spent too long in the open air. I had a problem with this bird already.

Rime is a beautiful but shallow puzzle-platformer that's a bit too derivative.

It was a bold strategy of Tequila Works to reacquire the rights to Rime from Sony after their funding had made it a PlayStation exclusive. It's one which should pay dividends and serve gamers as a whole because Rime is absolutely a darling title which deserves to be played by all, rather than just...

"What is that you're playing there? ICO?", "Is that Shadow of the Colossus Remastered?", "Is that some weird Journey clone?". There were many guesses coming in from those watching us play Rime . And we totally understand where they were coming from.

For a game that relies so heavily on perspective-based puzzles that require players to look at things in new ways, it's more than a little frustrating that Rime so unmistakably resembles so many games before it.

RiME tells the story of a child who washes up on an apparently deserted island, but this game has been a long time coming. The Ico style game play and Windwaker inspired aesthetic won RiME more than a few fans at Gamescom 2013.
