Resident Evil: Revelations for home consoles is a remastered version of last year's 3DS game which made a valiant effort to reconnect with the series' survival horror roots by including features such as limited ammo, dimly lit corridors and shambling enemies.

I played Resident Evil: Revelations on the 3DS last year and absolutely loved it. Putting my fan bitterness aside (for the arguably more action oriented approach it has taken), I praised it for being a successful marriage of both the old style of Resident Evil and the new style of Resident Evil.

The SS Queen Zenobia is a peculiar location for a modern Resident Evil game. Tight, claustrophobic corridors line the confines of this desolate vessel. Stranded at sea with no communication with the outside world, those aboard are trapped, alone and with no means of escape.

Resident Evil: Revelations was my most-anticipated game for the 3DS, and I was thoroughly impressed with it last February. When the HD console version was announced earlier this year, I was happy to see that the Wii U would be getting some exclusive content.

Achievements and unlockables are fun and doable; Continues to be an awesome RE game; Nice changes to Raid Mode; Off-TV play or TV + GamePad are both great

Aiming feels a little different; Final boss is more aggressive; less vulnerable; The kill room Campaign missions are still terrible

Good enough to keep RE fans without a 3DS happy, and the story will keep you engaged despite the difficulty.

I was ready to give up on the Resident Evil series but Revelations gives me a lot of hope that Capcom still knows what they're doing. Moody, suspenseful and elegant, Revelations does away with the extraneous complexity of other recent Resident Evil games and gets back to the basics of survival...
