It's very clear in Operation Flashpoint: Red River that Codemasters were trying to retain the gritty realism of their past titles, whilst simultaneously making them more accessible and fun for the masses, well, they succeeded.

By Brad Russell As soon as you begin the campaign you will realize that as a welcome breath of fresh air, this war game does not take after the balls-to-the-wall seriousness of Call of Duty, but it also aims to be more than a standard first-person shooter set in a modern warzone.

Operation Flashpoint: Red River is a game stuck between identities. While its ambitions as a simulation are nowhere near as exacting or disturbingly mundane as ARMA 2 's, it's also too demanding and tactical to be compared to the flamboyant action that makes up the play in Call Of Duty .

It is extremely fun and ditches the insane realistic aspect that Dragon Rising had(which I enjoyed for full disclosure)and makes a more mainstreamed experience that is very fun and enjoyable.
