OnePlus X Review

If you're looking to buy a cheap phone off-contract, and you're willing to wait a bit to get an invite, definitely buy this phone. It has the best specs for its price range, and it's an extremely well-built device.

OnePlus X

With a track record for making stellar handsets at incredibly low prices, OnePlus is one of the hottest smartphone makers at the moment. With the OnePlus X, the company continues this legacy, providing consumers with a genuinely impressive mid-range handset.

Cheap; Super bright AMOLED screen; Above average battery; Alluring design; Good performance

Camera isn't great in low light; Onyx version is a fingerprint magnet; The OnePlus 2 is better value

OnePlus X Review

Once again OnePlus shows that it can bring an amazing value to a product. In terms of absolute value, I would say that this phone is basically your 2014 high-end phone, with a design that would beat most 2014 Android handsets. This in itself is a feat.

Besides the Ceramic and its weirdly inflated price, it does indeed look like OnePlus has done it again, crafting a mass-appeal Android smartphone that's much better equipped than its low cost suggests.

The OnePlus X may lose some of the OnePlus 2's glamour with no fingerprint scanner and cut-back performance, but it's still a smooth operator that's impressively slim and light, with a sharp, seriously good AMOLED display and a dependable 13-megapixel camera proving highlights.

Thin and light; Strong value; Vibrant screen; Expandable storage; Decent battery life

OnePlus X Onyx

If you really care about buying a good looking smartphone on a budget, then the OnePlus X is the best that you can get right now. On the other hand, if you want top of the line, uncompromised performance, then the Asus Zenfone 2 is a better buy.

Good looking; Well built; Good camera

Glass on both sides; Snapdragon 801 is outdated; Power users won't like the battery life

The OnePlus X is probably the first time that OnePlus has really deviated from their design language. Yes, the OnePlus 2 was different from the OnePlus One in a few obvious ways but the basic shape, ergonomics etc remained quite similar.

Brilliant Display; Great Ergonomics and Design; Good Build Quality; Hybrid Dual SIM Slot; No Overheating

Slippery Back; No Backlighting for Capacitive Keys; No Dual Band WiFi and 802.11 ac Standard Support; Feeble Loudspeaker

Straight Up

The OnePlus X is not another flagship killer, we have the OnePlus 2 for that. Instead OnePlus decided to take a break from the high profile smartphone game and brings us a stunning mid-ranger capable of delivering on both looks and performance.

When OnePlus founder and CEO Carl Pei first showed off the new X in our Manhattan office, I was impressed. Nice glass design, kind of a hybrid iPhone/Xperia look. The textbook definition of "premium." But it's really what he said next that got me. "It's 250 bucks." Wait.....what?

The look; People have describe the OnePlus X as an iPhone 5 look alike and honestly, I don't see it; I think OnePlus has added enough of its own personality to make it stand out, especially in the sub $300 range

When you really scrutinize the spec sheet; there is a lot missing you might actually want: NFC; fingerprint reader; 5GHz wifi support; only 16GB onboard storage (with expandable storage but without Android flex storage); and USB Type-C.
